40 Days for Life's Shawn Carney explains how no industry exploits rape victims to expand their product more than the abortion industry.

Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.

First of all, a blessed Thanksgiving to you! We have so much to be grateful for, especially for the awesome gift of life, which comes to us directly from God. I’m grateful for each of you and for the work you do in the important cause of defending life.

I was alarmed that Manitobans elected an NDP government this week. As we wrote in our press release about this, under an NDP government, Manitobans can expect to see parental, free speech, and religious rights whittled away. This government will be a disaster for the province, especially when it comes to abortion and euthanasia, two issues that the NDP are eager proponents of. My colleague Jack Fonseca has written a sober article highlighting what this election means for the province and for Canada.

The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition held a press conference at the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Ottawa in support of Bill C-314, a private members bill that would prevent euthanasia (MAiD) for mental health issues in Canada. The bill was debated yesterday and could go to vote at any time. It’s an important bill that needs to be passed in order to protect vulnerable Canadians.

Data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) shows that hundreds of gender-confused girls, some as young as 14, have undergone “top surgery” in the form of double mastectomies to try to make themselves into males. Doctors who perform these surgeries are committing child abuse. This horrific mutilation of children must be stopped.

The October edition of CLC National News is now online. It’s a great way to catch up on the most important pro-life-and-family stories in our country.

+++Maureen, I’ll keep this short and sweet. It’s sometimes easy to become overwhelmed by all the bad things happening in our world, whether it be the increasing euthanasia rate, the assault our children are facing from LGBT ideology in schools, or an anti-life-and-family political party winning an election.

When I begin to feel overwhelmed by all the bad things, that’s when I know it’s time to take a “time out” and focus on the blessings and all the good things that are happening. There’s nothing more that helps me to do that than spending time with my wife and children, having a special meal with them, and enjoying God’s creation outdoors.

And, that’s what I love about Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect time to do all of this. It’s a time to remember that God is in charge, that he has already won the battle, and that everything bad that is happening in our world is happening for a purpose and that God can turn what is intended for evil into something good.

Thanksgiving is a time to focus on what’s right with the world and what are the good things happening in our lives. And, there are so many things to be grateful for when one begins to think about it.

Firstly, I’m grateful for the gift of life. My wife and I are grateful that God is blessing us with another pregnancy – number nine for us! Our baby is due in April. But, please keep us in your prayers since our last two babies were miscarried very early. So far, everything is going well with this baby. Praise God!

Secondly, I’m thankful for my family and friends who give my life so much meaning. They mean the world to me and I am so grateful to be traveling through life with them at my side. Thank you, my dear family and friends.

Finally, and most importantly, I’m grateful for the gift of the Christian faith and for the path and light that it provides. God became one of us to make possible the way to heaven, the goal and purpose of our lives. I’m so grateful to him for doing this and for giving us the graces we need to be faithful to him in this life. Thank you, Jesus!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? I challenge you to come up with a list of three things and to share them with your family or friends this weekend.

We all have so much to be grateful for! A blessed Thanksgiving to you and yours!
