Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.

It’s been a little bit quiet this past week on the life and family front. And, that’s not a bad thing. Our own Jack Fonseca has written an update about Catholic school trustee Mike Del Grande and the battle he’s engaging in to clear his name of committing hate crimes for opposing LGBT ideology in Catholic schools.

A pride parade was canceled in an Ontario town by —surprise!— LGBT activists after they requested that police stay away from their event and the mayor refused their request. To me, this is a small sign that the movement is beginning to implode on itself.

The must-see video of the week is awesome. It’s an ad from the first pro-life diaper company. You’d think that every diaper company would be publicly pro-life since business depends on babies being born and not aborted. It’s great to see a business wear the pro-life label proudly! Bravo!

Finally, read my reflection on how to respond to the argument that abortion is needed in cases of fetal anomalies.

Maureen,

Friend, one argument that abortion activists make is that abortion is needed in cases when there are fetal anomalies. This argument is ableism at its finest, that is, discrimination and social prejudice against people with physical or mental disabilities.

The fact is that all human beings, from conception to natural death, are equal in dignity as full members of the human family. Each has an inalienable right to life. Each person’s equal dignity and right to life is not and never can be, diminished by illness, disease, or disability.

A preborn baby with a severe disability or a fatal anomaly remains a full member of the human family with an inalienable right to life. Their lives matter as much as everyone else’s lives. A loving and compassionate society offers those with disabilities extra help, care, and support, including accessible facilities, special places to park a vehicle transporting a disabled person, specialized healthcare services, and adaptive technology and equipment to aid in mobility and communication.

In such a society, those with greater disabilities merit greater care. A person’s disability or genetic anomaly is a call for others to show love and compassion, no matter the person’s age, location, or level of development. This applies to all members of the human family, born and unborn. A civilization is judged by how it treats its weakest members, especially those with anomalies in the womb.

We must continue to fight for a civilization where doctors and the medical system see a pregnant mother and recognize that there are two patients who are persons with equal rights – the woman and the preborn child.

Be bold and daring for life!
