Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.

An Ontario female actor has pulled in over $100,000 from federal and provincial arts councils to showcase her real-life story about how she killed her baby by abortion because, she claims, she could not afford to have a child. This is what you call profiting from murder. It’s sick and wrong.

My boss CLC President Jeff Gunnarson was quoted in a National Post piece about the Liberal’s new proposed amendment to a law about who gets paid leave after stillbirth. He pointed out that the proposed amendment is broad enough to apply to women who have had a late-term abortion after 20 weeks. “If the Liberal government admits that abortion is a form of pregnancy loss that requires time off to grieve and heal, then why is it continuing to fund and make abortion more accessible to women when it only harms them, causing pain and trauma,” he rightly pointed out.

There’s a sad story about a man in BC who was on a waiting list to receive cancer treatment but who opted to end his life using assisted suicide (MAiD) after waiting more than 10 weeks for treatment. Our country has gone quickly from caring to killing sick people. This is so wrong.

Amanda Achtman with Canadian Physicians for Life has penned a powerful letter to Hungary begging it not to follow in Canada’s footsteps in legalizing euthanasia. She spells out the terrifying slippery slope our country has plunged in allowing doctors to kill sick people in the name of helping them.

Don’t miss the must-see video of the week satirizing how easy it is for a minor girl in some US states to get transgender surgery without parental consent while, at the same time, she cannot get a tattoo, buy cigarettes, purchase beer, rent a car, or even get fireworks. It’s spot on.

Pro-life advocate Stephanie Gray Connors has penned her profound thoughts on the courage it has taken her and her husband to be open to life after suffering four miscarriages in a row. You can read that in the "inspiring stories" section.

Finally, don’t miss my reflection on the war on Christmas happening in our country.

Maureen, did you hear about the war on Christmas happening right here in Canada?

The Canadian Human Rights Commission(CHRC) recently released a discussion paper calling the celebration of Christmas in Canada, which is one of two Canadian statutory holidays linked to religious holy days (the other being Easter) an “obvious example” of “present-day systemic religious discrimination” grounded in Canada’s “history of colonialism.”

Interestingly, it was not only traditionally-minded Christian Canadians who denounced the CHRC paper, but a number of politicians from various parties immediately waded into the fray.

The Conservatives launched a "Don't cancel Christmas!" campaign asking citizens to sign a petition condemning the CHRC's discussion paper. Following this, on Tuesday, Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu (Sarnia–Lambton) introduced private member’s bill C-369 to designate December as "Christian Heritage Month." "It's only fair and right that we would have a Christian heritage month since there's [19.3] million Christians in Canada, according to the last census. And what better month to pick than December,” she said.

Quebec’s National Assembly unanimously adopted a motion on Wednesday to defend Christmas on account of CHRC’s attack. “Honestly, we’ll continue to celebrate Christmas, and we won’t apologize for celebrating Christmas in Quebec,” Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette said.

The same day, Bloc Québécois Leader Yvew-Francois Blanchet challenged PM Trudeau in the House of Commons to explain the CHRC discussion paper, asking him if Christmas is racist. Trudeau, trying to put out the fire quickly, replied: "Obviously Christmas is not racist." I loved it when Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre chimed in: “Allow me to be the first of the season to wish everybody a merry Christmas. We love our great Canadian traditions including Christmas.”

The following day, the House unanimously condemned the CHRC paper. "It is still incredible we have to remind people Christmas is not discriminatory," said sponsor of the motion Bloc Québécois House Leader Alain Therrien.

Christmas is a wondrous day that is truly for all people, everywhere. On this day, the God of the universe who deigned to become one of us, was born into the world. He came that everyone might have life, and have it to the full. He came to open the way to heaven which was closed due to the sin of our first parents when they disobeyed God, eating from the tree which he had forbidden them to eat from.

That God would empty himself of his majesty and glory, becoming one of us, a baby born in poverty and simplicity, is the most astounding event in all of human history, and will remain so.

Christmas is also the most pro-life event in the history of the world because God entered into the world through the womb of his mother Mary, travelling through all stages of human development, from zygote to blastocyst, to embryo to fetus to baby, thus elevating the whole process of conception, pregnancy, and childbirth evermore.

I was glad to see so many people rise in defence of Christmas.

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year because it is when we remember that God has not abandoned us, but he is truly with us. "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us!" Let us prepare this advent to celebrate what Christmas is all about – the coming of Jesus Christ, the Emmanuel, the God who is with us!

Be bold and daring for life!
