Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.

A Catholic school trustee in Toronto is seeking to have the International Pro-life Flag flown at all Toronto Catholic schools in May. While this should be completely uncontroversial for a Catholic school board, it is causing quite a stir. The Toronto Star even weighed in with a smear job on the trustee behind the motion, Mike Del Grade. Any trustee who opposes this motion is simply unworthy of holding office on this school board.

The Canadian Bar Association has adopted a resolution on “protecting and realizing abortion rights in Canada.” It’s sickening that an association that represents over 38,000 lawyers, law students, notaries, and academics defends the greatest injustice of our time, the murdering of preborn babies. The Canadian Bar Association has become completely corrupt. Shame!

We’ve launched a campaign to help protect the conscience rights of doctors in Nova Scotia which are under attack by the pro-death lobby. If you live in Nova Scotia, please do your part to help protect your province’s pro-life doctors.

And, some good news. A 27-year-old autistic Calgary woman will not be allowed to be killed by euthanasia after a judge ruled that the Court of Appeal must weigh in first. The woman’s father is fighting for her life. While this woman’s life is not in the clear yet, her murder is no longer imminent. Please keep up the prayers as this case continues to unfold.

Maureen, I was outraged to see the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) adopt a resolution on advancing “abortion rights” in our country.

It’s now CBA policy to “oppose any efforts to restrict abortion rights and access in Canada” and “to commit to working with governments and other stakeholders to expand abortion access across Canada.”

The Association states in its resolution that “abortion rights are fundamental to bodily autonomy, and enable people to control their futures, shape their families, and fully participate in society, in accordance with principles of reproductive justice.”

All of this is complete rot.

Abortion kills a human being. It destroys their future, does not allow them to have a family, and completely removes them from participating in society by murdering them. And, of course, “reproductive justice” should be about reproduction, that is having children, not killing them.

The CBA’s resolution is filled with so many outright lies and misinformation when it comes to abortion.

For instance, the resolution states that the Supreme Court in the 1988 case R v Morgentaler “confirmed constitutional protection for abortion rights.”

This is simply false.

The Supreme Court did not find a right to abortion. The Court did not settle the abortion question. And, finally, the Court invited Parliament to pass a new law balancing the rights of the mother with the state’s interest in protecting the life of the fetus. Parliament has yet to take the Supreme Court up on its invitation.

The CBA should be deeply ashamed of itself that it has passed a resolution that tramples on the most fundamental of rights, the right to life, of the youngest members of the human family.

This organization has now lost the purpose of its existence, to pursue justice for the downtrodden, and it must be allowed to collapse under the weight of its moral corruption.

The time is now ripe for the birth of a new association of lawyers who will defend life and who will see it as their first duty to pursue justice for all, not only the born, but the preborn as well.

Be bold and daring for life!
