Sorrowful Mysteries for Life from Priests for Life Canada

Make the Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Say the Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Say the Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Say three Hail Marys

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us of our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.

First Sorrowful Mystery: THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN

Let us pray for mothers and fathers who are in agony because they are tempted to abort a child. May they be given the good news that all life is precious, and may they make use of the help that is available.

Say the Our Father

Say ten Hail Marys

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Second Sorrowful Mystery: THE SCOURGING

As Christ’s flesh was torn by the instruments of those who scourged Him, so the bodies of babies in the womb are torn by the instruments of the abortionists. Let us pray for the conversion of abortionists.

Say the Our Father

Say ten Hail Marys

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Third Sorrowful Mystery: THE CROWNING WITH THORNS

Jesus suffered the pain of thorns in His head, and did so silently. We pray for those who are sick, the elderly, and the disadvantaged, that they may be given the grace to recognize their suffering as a gift from God and that euthanasia never becomes an acceptable practice.

Say the Our Father

Say ten Hail Marys

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery: THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS

“Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves and your children. For behold, days are coming in which men will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and breasts that never nursed”’.

These words are familiar to all of us who have read them, but who would have dreamed that these words would have prophesied the clarion call of the abortionist – “Blessed are the barren!”

Let us pray – as Jesus did for his own persecutors – that their hearts may be opened one at a time. Take heart. It is happening.

Say the Our Father

Say ten Hail Marys

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery: THE CRUCIFIXION

As we ponder the death of Christ, let us remember the many women who have died from so-called “safe, legal” abortions. Let us ask forgiveness and mercy for them. May their memory save other women from making this tragic mistake.

Say the Our Father

Say ten Hail Marys

Say the Glory Be to the Father

Say the Hail Holy Queen

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our Life, our Sweetness, and our hope. To thee we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

P. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Say the Prayer after the Rosary

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

P. May the divine assistance remain always with us.

R. Amen.

P. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

R. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -

by the Divine Power of God -

cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits,

who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
