Promotion of the Cause of Venerable Edel Quinn

My dear legionaries,

From 14 September 2007 to 14 September 2008 legionaries throughout the world organised many celebrations to mark the centenary of the birth of Venerable Edel Quinn. The Concilium is deeply grateful to all the legionaries who worked tirelessly during the centenary year to make Venerable Edel known to the wider community. We earnestly ask you to continue your effort in promoting her Cause for sainthood. We urge all councils and praesidia

to undertake as many of the following as possible:- .

  • Make the prayer leaflet available to all.

  • Orrganize a talk on her life

  • In May organize a Mass to promote her Cause.

  • Give talks in schools and to young people.

  • Organize a special exhibition on her life.

  • Organize a sliide show on her life .

  • Ensure that the books 011 her life are widdy read:

In promoting the Cause of Venerable Edel Quinn we are making known the life and work of a great legionary who gave her life to the apostolate.

Frank Duff was convinced that Edel Quinn would be canonized, considering that she had all the essential qualities for holiness. He said this of her "She saw a star and aimed for it and would cut her way through forests and mountains to reach it, ready to tackle anything, willing to endure anything. She really loved God with her whole heart and soul. She was never thinking about herself but was always deeply concerned about everybody else. And she was so cheerful." .

On 15th December l994, Pope John Paul in a special assembly of the Cardinals and other members of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints made the following solemn declaration "It is certain that the Servant of God, Edel Mary Quinn a secular virgin of the Legion of Mary , practiced to a heroic degree the theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity towards God and her neighbour and likewise the cardinal virtues of Prudence, Justice, Temperance and Fortitude". John Paul 11 ordered the Decree to be published and to be inserted in the Acts of the. Congregation. Because of this proclamation of her outstanding holiness Edel Quinn now bears the title Venerable.

Here in Concilium we have set up a committee to examine favours received and to promote the Cause. Please report any favour received. If your Council has any novel ideas on promoting the Cause please let us know and we will share them with other legionaries. For the Cause to progress we need evidence of a first class miracle. We also need to show that there is genuine devotion to her. In December 1994 we all rejoiced when news reached

Concilium that Edel was declared Venerable by the Church. Let us hope and pray that through your efforts in promoting her Cause she will soon be declared Blessed by the Church.

We look forward to hearing about various efforts and favors from your counciL At present in one Dublin Curia they are praying for a little girl called "Winnie Edel" who has leukemia. Details of petitions for first class miracles ( physical cures) can be forwarded by us to the Senatus of Kenya to be included in the special prayers at the grave of Venerable Edel Quinn each month .

Please convey to your Spiritual Directors, Officers and legionaries the prayerful good wishes of all of us here in Concilium and our deep gratitude for all you are doing to promote the Cause of Venerable Edel Quinn.

Yours sincerely.
