Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.

There is a lot happening in the news this week. The NDP in Ontario is pushing to have taxpayers fund contraception for every woman. The Ford government, sadly, is signaling its support. Hormonal contraception is bad for women’s health, its widespread use actually increases the abortion rate (a fact candidly admitted by abortion activists), and it undermines marriage by stripping the sexual act of its procreative meaning and purpose. This is very bad news indeed. Read more about why universal contraception is a bad idea here.

A children’s hospital in Manitoba is promoting the mutilation of children’s reproductive organs who have become prey to the delusion that they are born in the wrong body. Transgender surgery for children is child abuse. The doctors who butcher children’s healthy organs should be charged with crimes against humanity. It was good to see Elon Musk speaking out publicly against this insanity.

A school trustee in Red Deer, Alberta has been undemocratically removed from her position by the Catholic school board for a picture she posted on social media aptly comparing the brainwashing of children into gender ideology with the brainwashing of children decades ago into Nazi ideology. Jack Fonseca has penned a must-read piece about this alarming situation.

Don’t miss the inspiring story about the Catholic priest who was on his way to pick up donuts for a marriage prep class but who got sidetracked by helping to deliver a homeless woman’s twin babies.

Also, you won’t want to miss the must-see video of the week where pro-life leader Lila Rose addresses the UN, calling for an end to abortion. Her speech was riveting and may go down in history as one of the most powerful speeches to the UN on the abortion holocaust.

Top Canadian pro-life stories you need to know about

Campaign Life Coalition: Do the voters of Red Deer Matter?

“Who gets to choose the democratically elected trustees to represent you on the local Catholic school board? Is it the voters who live in the district, or is it a handful of self-appointed overlords?”

Campaign Life Coalition: Defend Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson

“Pro-parental rights Pickering Councillor under attack.”

Real Women of Canada: Government Investigations of Pregnancy Centres

“It was fortunate for Trudeau that he did not push forward with this policy by amending the Income Tax Act.  A court decision, on Nov 8, 2023, in the State of New York should be a warning to him.”

CBC: Pro-abortion groups in N.B. spar over how to help women kill even more babies

“There's a new debate emerging about abortion in New Brunswick — between groups who support access but have different approaches on how to pursue that goal.”

CLC Comment: The above headline was tweaked by CLC. The original headline reads: “New abortion debate emerges in N.B. — on how best to improve access.” Our headline is certainly more accurate. Abortion is the slaughter of human persons. Killing humans should never be up for debate.

CTV News: NDP pushing for Ontario to become 3rd Canadian province to offer free birth control

“Free contraception was a key part of the NDP’s 2022 election platform. Ontario’s Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) currently covers contraception for individuals under the age of 25, as long as they aren’t also covered by a private plan.”

Catholic Register: Lawyer to challenge assisted suicide (MAiD) for mentally ill

“Prominent Canadian human rights lawyer Julius Grey told a group of anti-euthanasia protesters he is prepared to launch a legal action against the law that allows Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) for those with mental health problems.”

True North: Manitoba’s children’s hospital foundation encouraged irreversible gender transition of 10-year-old

“The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is under intense scrutiny for a social media post that actively supported and encouraged a 10-year-old child in their desire to undergo a surgical gender transition.” Read here how Elon Musk slammed the hospital’s promotion as “unconscionable.”

Western Standard: Regina Public Library changes Drag Queen Story Hour to include all Pride categories

“The ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ has been changed to ‘Reading with Pride Storytime.’”

CLC Comment: If anyone doubted what these story hours are really about, the cat has now been let out of the bag. These events were never about promoting “acceptance” of a marginalized group but about grooming children into the homosexual lifestyle. Taking a child to such an event is abusive to that child.

The Rebel: Canadian Female Powerlifter appeals 2-year suspension for criticizing trans-identified males in female sport

“April was threatened with a two-year ban from competition for speaking out after a trans-identified male-born powerlifter mocked women after dominating a powerlifting meet.”

Lila Rose Addresses The United Nations, Calls For Human Rights Protections For Unborn Children: Lila Rose calls on the United Nations to address the human rights abuse of abortion and set a resolution to end the murder of children in the womb during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. "If human rights do not apply to human life in the womb, they apply to no one. If our youngest child is not considered worthy of these rights, why then do the rights matter for anyone? We must do better. We can do better. To live up to the great ideals of this Declaration."

Maureen, did you ever hear the argument that abortion is needed because it empowers women? There are many people, sadly, who think this way.

Did you know there’s a great response to this argument? It runs like this. To empower someone means to help them become stronger and more confident to achieve something, usually a goal connected to the person flourishing and becoming all that they were meant to become.

Inscribed into a woman’s being is her ability to nurture new human life, to become a mother. For example, her womb is the most perfectly designed environment for a baby’s growth and development. Again, a woman’s breasts are designed to provide the perfect nourishment for the newly born baby. In fact, everything about the woman’s design is a testimony to how she was created to bring new life into the world, to nurture it, and help that life become all that it was meant to become.

To truly empower women would mean, therefore, to help them become stronger and more confident to see their fertility and the children that come to them as priceless gifts that are worth sacrificing everything for.

Abortion robs women of their children. It strangles their motherhood. It desecrates their design. Killing children empowers no one.

So, in the end, abortion in no way empowers women but only robs, kills, and destroys.

The next time you hear someone make this pro-abortion claim, be bold and daring for life with this response.
