Annual Pilgrimage to Our lady of the Cape August 2009 August 1, 2, 3

- DAY OF RECOLLECTION FOR THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED -

WHEN: June 20th WHERE: St. George Parish

The DAY OF RECOLLECTION - was held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the St.George's Catholic Church, Ottawa, from 9.00 am to 2.45pm. This was a get-together for fellowship and worship for our handicapped friends and those we visit in hospitals and nursing homes as well as volunteers and legionaries from other Praesidia. This activity required quite a lot of organizing and we appreciated the help and cooperation of legionaries from other praesidia and Father Anthony, Spiritual Director of the Senatus and Father Leonard, Pastor of St.George's Catholic Church.

Twenty-one attended (four physically-handicapped and two mentally-challenged with two program workers, a cancer patient going through chemotherapy, a few volunteers and legionaries including two priests). All had a very enjoyable time.

The activities of the day were as follows:

9.00 am. Arrival, registration

9:15 am. Tea, coffee and snacks

10.00 am. Spiritual Talk by Father Anthony who gave an excellent talk on the love and mercy of God and then went on to talking about the Sacrament of Confession, using his own experience as illustration. It was very well received.

1.00 am. Confession - heard by Father Anthony and Father Leonard.

11.30 am. Mass - Father Anthony was the celebrant. Sr. Marilyn, President of the Senatus, provided music with her guitar and led the singing of the hymns. Sr. Elaine, President of Our Lady of Grace Praesidium, did the Readings.

12.15 pm Lunch - As the church hall was very well equipped, we were able to do some cooking and also we appreciated food brought in by some of the participants, so lunch was very plentiful and delicious.

1.30 pm. Spiritual Video - We watched "Talks by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen"

-very inspiring.

2.45 pm Departure.

-LEGION STUDY DAY-

ST. GEORGE PARISH HALL

Twenty Legionaries gathered at St. George Parish for the first Saturday Mass then proceeded to the hall for coffee and muffins, so ably baked by Sr. Toni Belanger. All then watched the video "Meet the Legion"

Comments received were as follows

1... The video was up to date, showing Pope Benedict meeting Concilium President.

2... The vast number of Koreans, 40,000, attending the celebrationof their 50th Anniversary in a stadium in Korea.

3... The video should be shown at the Legion retreats, buses to St. Anne de Beaupre and our Lady of the Cape Shrine in trois Rivieres, to CCO- Campus Outreach, Priests at Diocesan monthly meeting, Deacons at Deacon's Meetings, Seminarians.

4...Each Praesidium should have a copy and each parish library also. The Praesidium should watch it together then discuss it.

Although the attendance was small at this gathering, the participation was commendable.
