Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
There are two big stories to pay attention to this week.
The first is that New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs has come out strongly in favour of parental rights and against the LGBT agenda, reforming a policy that allowed parents to be deliberately excluded if school administration decided to help a child socially transition to a member of the opposite sex.
“It’s a time for celebration by pro-family New Brunswickers! As of July 1st, schools will no longer be able to hide gender transitioning of young children from their parents,” wrote CLC’s David Cooke in a report on this matter.
The second story to pay attention to is that Mr. Trudeau’s “feminist” government voted down a Conservative bill that sought to increase protections for women who are pregnant and more vulnerable to violent attacks. “Pro-choice” Liberal, NDP, and Bloc MPs falsely claimed that MP Cathay Wagantall’s bill would “reopen the abortion debate.” In truth, the bill had nothing to do with abortion. It was simply a pro-woman bill. Shame on all the MPs who voted against this common-sense bill.
There’s been a lot of pushback to the “Pride” movement’s infiltration of schools. And, it’s not coming only from Christians. Muslim communities have now joined in protests across the nation, leading chants of “Leave our children alone!”
Some good news here: The Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform, a pro-life group that uses abortion victim photography to show the truth about abortion in the public square, is legally challenging Calgary’s new bylaw that censors this kind of image. Bravo!
Quebec has now passed Bill 11 which forces palliative care homes to provide euthanasia. It also allows the killing of the sick and elderly in funeral homes and long-term care homes. And, pro-euthanasia activists mocked those who warned about a slippery slope. Once killing becomes a legal solution to a problem, it will expand to solve more and more problems. That’s one reason why Pandora’s box of legal euthanasia never should have been opened in the first place.
A Liberal MP has mistakenly confused abortion with miscarriage care. CLC summer intern Warren McArthur has written a splendid piece on this, interviewing a Canadian pro-life doctor who has cleared up the confusion.

From CLC summer intern Warren McArthur:
Maureen, something I recently have come to realize is just how important information is to the campaign against abortion.
As one of the CLC’s new summer interns, I have been writing articles on important and timely stories. Last week, I set out to write a story on the Liberal MP Marci Ien’s false statement regarding abortion and miscarriage care.
At first, it was just another story, but I quickly realized how important this was.
That this misinformation was so blatant and widespread surprised me, and it's still spreading. I quickly learned just how important the responsibility of pro-lifers is to educate people about the truth.
I reached out to Dr. Kiely Williams for a comment to try and set the record straight, and she was nice enough to respond to my questions. You can read the story now on the CLC youth blog (see link near top).
What I can definitely tell you regarding all of the work that I have been doing this summer is that I will be much more educated and impassioned when I return to university this September.
In other news, as someone living in Nova Scotia, I have been very thankful recently that the fires on the East Coast have died down, and I can thank God for clear skies free of smoke! I hope that the summer weather is treating you well and that this season is one of prosperity for you!
