Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
As I promised last week, we put out a report on Quebec’s proposed constitution that would enshrine the so-called “freedom” to have an abortion. The report quotes Georges Buscemi, President of Quebec Life Coalition, about what’s really going on here. The long and short of it is that Quebec is moving to define its identity and culture in terms of death and destruction. It’s so sad. This is what happens to a culture that rejects God.
My colleague Josie Luetke has penned a wonderful piece that includes over 100 photos of Life Chains across the nation. My five-year-old daughter shows up in one of those photos. She attended Life Chain in Barry’s Bay. Can you find her?
You may have heard about the shocking majority the PCs won this week in Newfoundland. Please pray that the new PC government and Premier Tony Wakeham will take a different path than the pro-abortion, pro-LGBT Liberals who have harmed the province over the past decade. My colleague Jack Fonseca has put out a Party Policy Comparison chart chart for the province that enumerates the evil policies of the outgoing Liberal regime. It’s worth checking out.
I was shocked to see stats showing that 90,000 Canadians have chosen to have themselves killed through euthanasia. MAiD has turned into a holocaust against the sick and elderly. Every one of these deaths is a crime against humanity and an offence to God. Humans were not created by God to kill one another. Behind every euthanasia death is a rejection of what it means to be human, as well as a rejection of God.
There are some truly inspiring stories this week. Live Action published a story about the Canadian Olympic curling champion who rejected abortion. This amazing story was originally dug up by our own Kim Headley, who is herself a national champion curler and will be playing in the same competitions as the Olympic star—Jennifer Jones—in the coming weeks. This story is an inspiration to women who face conflict between pregnancy and career decisions. Jennifer Jones put it best: “All I ever wanted was to be a mom, and it didn't come easy for me. I also wanted to be an Olympic champion. I truly believed I could be both." And she was!
The must-see video of the week is a short clip of Christian conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey debating 20 Liberals who call themselves “Christian.” During the debate, she destroyed the pro-abortion argument that abortion is non-violent. It’s worth watching to help you brush up on your own pro-life apologetics.
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about another Canadian woman who was almost killed by the abortion pill.
Campaign Life Coalition: Quebec’s Proposed Constitution Would Enshrine ‘Freedom’ to Abortion
“What justice demands is for Parliament to pass legislation protecting children in the womb. Such legislation must reflect what science and medical advancements reveal to us about life in the womb—namely, that it is a fully human life.”
Life Chain: The 2025 Life Chain in Snapshots
“Turnout is estimated to have approached or even exceeded 20,000, perhaps boosted by unseasonably warm and sunny weather across much of the country and the example of pro-life conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was murdered less than a month prior.”
Catholic Register: Canada's fertility rate reaches new low
“‘Instead of pouring millions into the destruction of future Canadians, this money should be used to help families thrive and to encourage married couples to welcome more children,’ said Jeff Gunnarson, the national president of Campaign Life Coalition.”
Euthanasia Prevention Coalition: 90,000 Canadians dead by Euthanasia (MAiD) and counting
“Canada does not need more MAID. It needs more humanity.”
Euthanasia Prevention Coalition: Québec Constitutional Bill 2025 would create a "right to be killed"
“The Québec Constitution Bill 2025 is likely unconstitutional and is incredibly dangerous as it would create a constitutional right to kill.”
Live Action: Canadian Olympic champion rejected abortion
“Jennifer Jones is an Olympic champion and regarded by many as Canada’s greatest female curler. She’s also a mother who rejected abortion.”
LifeNews: Abortion Clinic Security Guard is Secretly Saving Babies
“…the abortion center security guard is now directing clients to talk with 40 Days for Life volunteers about life-affirming alternatives to abortion.”
The Bridgehead: In stunning reversal, Dutch parliament votes to oppose abortion as a human right at EU
“Pro-life politicians and advocates had been pushing back against the bill.”
LifeNews: 40 Days for Life Vigils Have Saved 26,000 Babies From Abortion
“…because of the peaceful, loving approach that our volunteers take on the sidewalk.”

Maureen, Global News has reported about another Canadian woman who almost died after using the abortion pill.
Cherise Basque, a mother of five, nearly bled to death after taking the abortion pill at home — five pills meant to “end her pregnancy.” After taking the pills, she was in so much pain that she went to the hospital seeking help. She was left crying for help as hospital staff allegedly dismissed her agony, telling her, “It’s just the pill doing its job.”
Cherise fainted from blood loss and needed emergency surgery to remove the tissue that remained in her womb after the demise of her preborn baby. Doctors said she could have died if she hadn’t called 911.
This poor woman is one of hundreds of Canadian women who have been seriously harmed by the abortion pill since 2017. For example, 19-year-old Ontarian Rheanna Laderoute died in 2022 from septic shock as a result of using the abortion pill.
The truth is that no woman should ever suffer like this. The abortion pill doesn’t “empower” women — it harms them while destroying their preborn child.
It’s time to ban this dangerous pill that is killing Canada’s children and hurting women like Cherise Basque.
Be bold and daring for life!
