Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
There are a number of reports this week about the March for Life in Quebec. The peaceful event turned wild after it was attacked by hoodlums. Hundreds of Antifa-style pro-abortion activists infiltrated the pro-life event, launching smoke bombs, blaring airhorns, and blocking families from marching. However, event organizers would let nothing deter them from taking a stand for the preborn.
My colleague David Cooke has penned an update on the situation in Ottawa, which is moving to put additional bubble zones in place. The city is experiencing pushback. Almost 3,000 have signed our petition opposing this. You can add your name here.
Parents from across the country kept their children home from school earlier this week as part of our third annual National 'Pride' Walk-out Day. They were protesting "pride" propaganda in their children's schools. Many faithful supporters also attended several pray-ins outside school boards and diocesan offices. Stay tuned for an in-depth report on the event.
Frank Cardinal Leo, Archbishop of Toronto, has spoken out strongly against Catholics who use "misguided and inadequate" symbols in the month of June that "do not represent us as Catholics but rather contribute to confusion, distortions and ambiguities about what the Catholic faith truly teaches regarding the human person, human nature, and natural moral law." Catholics shouldn't use 'Pride' symbols, since, he said, they're “contrary to God’s divine revelation.” Bravo, Cardinal Leo!
The June edition of CLC National News, our monthly newsletter, is now available online. This is our National March for Life Special Edition. It has great photos and write-ups of events. You can view and print the newsletter by clicking on this link. Don’t miss this month’s letter to pro-lifers from CLC President Jeff Gunnarson about protecting every child.
In this week’s must-see video, Canadian rabbi Jonathan Jaffit didn't expect MAID to impact his community. But then it did. Watch how he discovered a need for memory, meaning, and mutual belonging.
Don’t miss my reflection at the end about a courageous Canadian pro-life doctor who refuses to kill his patients by MAiD.

Maureen, this is Dr. Jeremy Bannon.
He's a Canadian physician and an assistant clinical professor at McMaster Medical School.
A few weeks ago, while walking through the halls of the hospital where he works, he ran into the brother of a former patient—a woman he had cared for during her recovery from a stroke.
"I asked him how his sister was doing, having positive memories of journeying alongside her as she recovered from a stroke," Dr. Bannon recalled in an article published in May in First Things.
The brother informed the doctor that his sister was “gone.”
Saddened, the doctor offered his condolences and asked what had happened.
“She went for MAiD,” the brother said. “We didn’t agree with her choice, but she said that if she was not able to walk on her own after a year, she was going to go for it.”
In response, the doctor said quietly:
“I’m sorry my colleague killed your sister.”
The brother looked surprised.
"I told him," the doctor said, "it had been a pleasure taking care of his sister and assured him that this was not the 'medicine' that I had signed up for. He thanked me, almost as if my view of care was a unique approach to 'the healing art.' In Canada, it increasingly is."
Men like Dr. Jeremy Bannon represent a new generation of physicians in Canada—doctors who refuse to turn the healing profession into a killing profession. They refuse to kill their patients.
“The curious thing about my ‘unique’ way of practicing medicine—where I refuse to kill my patients—is that it’s actually not unique at all. Historically, medical ethics has always maintained that doctors have no business killing their patients,” he wrote.
I was deeply moved when I read Dr. Bannon’s account of the way he ethically practices medicine.
Doctors are meant to be healers, not killers. Dr. Bannon is a living testimony to how all doctors should practice.
We need more like him!
Be bold and daring for life!
