Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
Sunday saw a historic turnout for Life Chain 2025 across Canada. There were a record-breaking 365-plus locations where an estimated 20,000 pro-life Canadians showed the nation that the pro-life movement is strong, it's not going away, and it will one day end abortion. Make sure you check out some of the great coverage of Life Chains across Canada.
If you’ve been following Campaign Life Coalition for any period of time, you have heard us talking about a government-funded organization called the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN) that does not like us or the work we do in defending life and standing up for real marriage. A Conservative MP is now calling for this group to be defunded, partly because of its targeting of peaceful and law-abiding pro-life groups—and it’s about time! CAHN went on the defensive, insisting that it never targeted pro-lifers. We could not sit idly by and let this stand. We put out a press release with all the evidence to set the record straight. It's worth reading.
There is some terrible news from Quebec. The province just drafted a constitutional update to enshrine the “right” to abortion. We are following this news very closely and will have a more detailed story to share with you about it next week.
There’s some good boots-on-the-ground work being done to help Ontarian Roger Foley, a man who has been pressured to consider euthanasia while being denied adequate care. The Life Care Network has launched a fundraising campaign to cover Roger’s medical costs so he can get out of the hospital that wants him dead. Please read this story, and if you feel moved, please help support Roger’s fundraising campaign. There is a link to do so in the story.
A brave B.C. MLA introduced a bill to protect children from the claws of harmful transgender ideology. The Protecting Minors from Gender Transition Act would protect children from social and medical gender transition. While the bill was narrowly voted down on Wednesday, it shows that Canadians are beginning to wake up to the dreadful abuse of children happening in the name of transgenderism. Inevitably, such bills will pass. The evidence is overwhelmingly against these kinds of mutilating “transitions.”
There’s a must-see video of the week featuring a mom reaching a precious milestone with her beautiful baby who has Down syndrome. It’s very endearing.
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about Canadian Olympic curling champion Jennifer Jones, who recently revealed in her memoir Rock Star how she rejected abortion and chose life for her baby. You won’t read about this anywhere else.
With the postal strike now on, our mail-in donations have stopped. We are in need of your online donation today to keep us going. If you appreciate the work we do at CLC, please show us by sending in a donation today. It means the world to us! I will personally thank each one of you who donates today using the link below. Campaign Life Coalition: CLC Contests Anti-Hate Network’s Denial of Targeting Pro-Life Groups
“The Canadian Anti-Hate Network citing the March for Life as an example of counter-demonstration risks sending a signal to hostile groups and radicalized individuals that this event is a legitimate target. In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, it is reckless and dangerous for a government-funded organization to encourage followers to ‘disrupt’ peaceful events and ‘fight’ those who attend them, effectively putting targets on pro-lifers’ backs.”

“The bill states that the ‘state protects women's freedom to have an abortion.’ The truth is, there can never be a ‘right’ to end another person's life through abortion.”

Pro-life Canadian Man
Baby Luca, born with an extra chromosome, learns to say new words. Children with Down syndrome deserve to live. Every life is a gift. “When your child has Down syndrome, the milestones just hit harder, it’s the best!”
She’s also a mother who rejected abortion.
In her new book Rock Star, Jennifer relates how she was pressured to have an abortion by a sponsor after a horrific knee injury that required expensive surgery. She said her interaction with the sponsor left her “stunned.”
“I updated him about my knee and then revealed that I was pregnant. His first question to me was shocking: ‘Do you plan on keeping the baby?’”
Jones writes that the question was strange to her because it came without any hesitation, as if the sponsor had asked such questions before.
“I told him I most definitely did, and how I had wanted a baby and was overjoyed by my pregnancy. I also told him more about the surgery and how it would proceed. He responded by saying that another athlete they had worked with chose a different path and had had an abortion. She felt her sport was more important at this point in her life, he added.”
Jones wrote that her “jaw dropped” when she heard this. “I could tell that was the end of our conversation…it was clear to me that in this situation, my own choice would not be respected.”
She could not believe what had just happened.
“There I was, being judged for wanting to keep my baby. Without saying the words, I was being told it had to be one or the other. What it should have been was a celebration of someone working to become an Olympic athlete and a mother at the same time. To me, that would be an achievement worthy of supporting.”
Jones was sad that she was being criticized “for wanting to have a baby.” But she was determined to fight for her baby’s life.
“All I ever wanted was to be a mom, and it didn't come easy for me. I also wanted to be an Olympic champion. I truly believed I could be both, and no one was going to tell me otherwise.”
“I was now more determined than ever to be at my very best.”
While Jones is a flawed hero because she writes that she has “respect” for the “right” of women to “make decisions” over their “own bodies,” she is nevertheless still a hero for her baby—and will forever be one!
She chose life for her baby in a difficult situation when making the opposite choice would have helped advance her career. She chose someone else over herself, and that makes her a hero.
Jennifer Jones didn’t just win medals—she showed Canada that motherhood is not a barrier to greatness. She showed that she’s a champion both on the ice and in life.
Be bold and daring for life!
