Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
So much is happening this week. The Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN), a group which allegedly exists to combat “hate” by going after pro-life groups, wrote a nasty smear piece against us for our choice of speaker at the youth conference following the National March for Life this coming May.
The group, according to Blacklock’s Reporter, hectored the manager of the convention centre where we’ve booked our events for the past 17 years, something we interpret as an attempt to get us cancelled. We'll do our best so that the "anti-hate" group won't get its way.
News broke on Thursday that Prime Minister Mark Carney will dissolve Parliament this weekend and call an election for the end of April or the beginning of May. We’ve kicked into high gear preparing our famous election voter guide. Check out our progress at voteprolife.ca.
Speaking about PM Carney, make sure you check out the reports about his troubled daughter receiving transgender therapy at the discredited and now-shuttered Tavistock transgender clinic in the UK. Sasha Carney, who is now 24 and clearly troubled, is a gender ideology activist and identifies as “non-binary.”
ARPA has released an excellent investigative piece about who exactly our new Prime Minister is. If mainstream media misled you into thinking he’s great for Canada, this piece is for you.
Interestingly, one of Carney’s first moves was to eliminate the position of Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth (WAGE), a move that enraged abortion and LGBT activist groups who put out a joint statement calling it “unacceptable” and a “regressive step.” The cabinet position was formerly held by Toronto Centre MP Marci Ien, who used WAGE almost exclusively as a platform to champion abortion and to introduce legislation to strip pro-life pregnancy centres of their charitable status.
Our group of young people has now returned home from a United Nations conference in New York. I almost could not believe some of the nefarious plots they uncovered and the heroic interventions they made on behalf of the preborn and the family. Please check out their eye-opening reports.
Speaking of the UN, CLC co-sponsored a powerful joint statement on protecting children from gender ideology. The statement, which includes the names of 70 other organizations, was delivered to the president of the UN Human Rights Council plenary in Geneva.
Here’s one hard-hitting line from the joint statement: “A society that exposes children to irreparable harm while stripping parents of their rightful role does not act in the best interests of children—it fails them utterly.” Can I get an ‘Amen’ to that?
Don’t miss the good news story from the Catholic Register highlighting our keynote speaker at this year’s Rose Dinner following the National March for Life on May 8. Catholic writer Emily Stimpson Chapman is a powerhouse when it comes to telling her own story about her cross of infertility and how she came to realize that IVF would be an evil solution to her problem.
There’s a beautiful must-see video about motherhood, showing in an astounding 23 seconds just how amazing it is. Wow!
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about why we’re being attacked yet again by a group that allegedly exists to combat hate.

CAHN does not like that we're bringing in minister Calvin Robinson, a strong defender of human life at every stage and a vocal defender of pro-life speech, to speak at our youth event. They falsely accuse him in their headline of giving a “nazi salute” even though the article makes it clear that Robinson made a “mocking” gesture that was meant to "mimic the gesture made by Elon Musk.”
CAHN has already contacted the location where we are hosting our event and have hosted it for the past 17 years — the Ottawa Conference and Events Centre — pressuring them with information they know to be false about the meaning of Robinson’s gesture.
It seems that CAHN wants to get CLC cancelled by spreading lies about Robinson.
CAHN is clearly not a good actor here. They published this piece even after admitting to us in emails that they “certainly understand that Fr. Robinson is not a secret National Socialist.”
It seems unbelievable the extent to which this group will go to distort the facts to achieve whatever their purpose might be.
But it’s not surprising if you know anything about this group.
Did you know that an Ontario judge found that CAHN assisted the violent Antifa group?
In 2019, respected Canadian journalist Jonathan Kay and his wife Barbara were sued by CAHN for libel over social media posts that criticized CAHN’s links to the Antifa movement in the US. The Superior Court judge ruled, however, that the tweets weren’t defamatory and that the “evidence disclosed that CAHN did in fact assist Antifa and that the movement has been violent.” The National Post characterized this as a “legal victory” that should make Canadians question CAHN’s reception of $908,400 in government grants.
What is CAHN really about? You might be surprised to find out.
The group told a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in 2018 that it is “modeled after, and supported by, the esteemed Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in the United States.” The SPLC was linked to a 2012 shooter who entered the Conservative-based Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. armed with a semi-automatic pistol and 100 rounds of ammo to “kill as many as possible" due to the research group’s position on marriage. The shooter targeted this group because the SPLC had recently labelled it as a “hate group.” A security guard was shot, but thankfully, no one was killed.
The fact that CAHN was modelled on the US-based SPLC and that it receives support from this group — which is more of a partisan tool of the progressive left that is more interested in smearing ideological opponents than anything else — tells you all you need to know.
CAHN has a long history of smearing and spreading misinformation about us, some of which it has been legally pressured to retract.
Late last year, CAHN mischaracterized CLC as a “far-right” “hate” group in an online publication. After legal exchanges, CAHN issued an apology in October and took down the defamatory content. Last March, the group issued a retraction after falsely claiming that CLC was secretly behind a poll despite communicating to them that we were not. On another occasion in 2022, CAHN misrepresented a CLC staff member in a comment in a report about school board trustee candidates. We challenged them. While no retraction was issued, the online story was corrected.
As you know, we’re a national pro-life organization which works at all levels of government to secure full legal protection for the preborn from the first moment of their existence. We defend the sanctity of human life against threats posed by abortion and euthanasia. We champion Biblical marriage, the family, and parental rights.
We work for a Canada that adheres to the historical fact, as stated in the preamble to our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, that Canada is “founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God.” Our constant prayer, as we sing in our National Anthem, is that “God keep our land, glorious and free.”
When you see what CAHN is up to and how they constantly go after pro-life and pro-family groups, ask yourself this question: who is the real hater here?
On a side note, the fact that CAHN is going after our Youth Conference must mean we’re doing something right since they are trying so hard to cause problems. You don’t get flak unless you are over the target.
So, we’re going to keep on moving forward with our event. We know that we’re standing in a position of justice and righteousness, and we won’t back down when the truth is on our side.
It is this that emboldens us to always be bold and daring in life!
