Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
I did not send out the Pro-Life News Bits last week since I was in Ottawa with my teammates holding a press conference outside the U.S. Embassy. We called on President Donald Trump to defend Canadian Christians and pro-lifers at the G7 in Alberta. Make sure you check out our press release, which includes a video of the entire press conference.
In a victory for free speech, pro-life Christian grandmother Linda Gibbons was found not guilty of “obstruction” and breaking an almost 30-year-old injunction. She was released from jail on Monday. Be sure to check out my short report on this excellent news.
We’ve released a powerful new exposé on Henry Morgentaler, the man hailed by many as a hero of “women’s rights,” but who, in reality, played a leading role in the mass killing of preborn children in Canada. The article takes a new look at how a Holocaust survivor — who lost family members in the Nazi death camps — became Canada’s most infamous abortionist, responsible for ending the lives of some 80,000 preborn babies with his own hands. This is a must-read for every Canadian who cares about truth and justice.
The pro-life Christian group ARPA is taking the City of London to court over a bylaw that bans ultrasound photos — simply because they show a fetus. The bylaw targets pro-life expression only, treating even an image of a healthy preborn baby as "graphic content." I fully expect this bylaw to crash and burn.
One of our summer interns, Hailey Simpson, has penned a thought-provoking piece about her experience at the recent National March for Life in Ottawa. Her insights into the vitality of the pro-life movement, as evidenced by all the young people present at the event, are encouraging.
Our president, Jeff Gunnarson, has written an account of our third annual National “Pride” Flag Walk-Out Day event. While school boards continue to hide absence rates, there are indications that the event was a success and is making a difference.
There are some amazing and inspiring stories this week. Don’t miss the one from CBC (of all places!) about a Canadian doctor who reunited with a preemie he delivered 57 years ago — a baby expected to be stillborn. This story is a tearjerker.
Also, don’t miss the must-see video of the week from EWTN, which explores in depth Canada’s abortion and euthanasia regime. The video features various pro-life voices, including our own Maeve Gainey and Matthew Wojciechowski.
Finally, be sure to read my reflection at the end about what went into putting together the exposé on Morgentaler. It’s the story behind the story.

Pro-life Canadian Man
EWTN recently produced a good segment on the pro-life status of Canada. It features CLC spokespeople and other pro-life voices. Be sure to watch and share with family and friends.
Maureen, this month, we released a powerful new exposé on Henry Morgentaler, the man hailed by many as a hero of “women’s rights,” but who in reality played a leading role in the mass killing of preborn children in Canada.
I was inspired to write this article after reading Viktor Frankl’s psychological account of Holocaust survivors in which he describes how the horrors of the Nazi camps twisted some victims into moral monsters.
Frankl writes in Man’s Search for Meaning that after liberation, many prisoners “could not escape the influences of the brutality which had surrounded them in camp life.” Now that they were free, “they thought they could use their freedom licentiously and ruthlessly…The only thing that had changed for them was that they were now the oppressors instead of the oppressed. They became instigators, not objects, of willful force and injustice.”
It was a moment of epiphany when I realized that Henry Morgentaler fit Frankl’s description exactly.
I connected this insight to Morgentaler’s post-war life, arguing that instead of rising above his trauma, Morgentaler turned it outward—inflicting pain on the most vulnerable of all: the preborn child. Like the very regime that once dehumanized and exterminated his own people, Morgentaler dehumanized the child in the womb with words like “fetus” and “clump of cells,” while building a propaganda narrative around “choice” and “freedom.”
“Morgentaler became psychologically twisted from his time at the Nazi camps, I wrote in the article. “The influence of brutality got to him. He became the oppressor, the instigator of willful force and injustice. He used his freedom licentiously and ruthlessly.”
Even though Morgentaler died over a decade ago, his legacy of death lives on in the legal and cultural framework he helped build—one that enables Canada’s ongoing genocide against preborn children. While secular society hails him as a "hero" and "champion of women," the truth is that he was a destroyer. No one in Canadian history has done more to shape the lawless abortion landscape than Morgentaler.
Because of him, Canada has no legal protections whatsoever for preborn children. Due to the Supreme Court's 1988 decision in his case, abortion is permitted through all nine months of pregnancy—for any reason, or no reason at all. The devastating impact of this cannot be overstated.
Canada must come to terms with the damage Morgentaler has done to the moral fabric of our nation. When that day comes, his name will no longer be honoured with the Order of Canada, but remembered for what it truly represents: a legacy of violence against the most vulnerable.
This exposé is a call on our nation to stop celebrating Morgentaler as a national hero and instead recognize the horrific legacy he left behind—a legacy of violence, deception, and death.
Be bold and daring for life!
