Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
Pro-life researcher Patricia Maloney is sounding the alarm bell that the Canadian government continues to discriminate against pro-life organizations in its summer jobs grant program.
While the government is funding some 70K job opportunities for youth this summer, none of the opportunities will take place in Christian or pro-life organizations. They are deemed “ineligible” for the grants, because, in the words of the government, they “actively work to undermine or restrict a woman's access to sexual and reproductive health services.” This is blatant discrimination against these groups. It is wrong and it must end.
An Ontario student who faced criminal charges of inciting hatred after posting flyers at his high school that linked to a video warning transgender individuals about the risks of gender reassignment surgery has been acquitted following a two-day trial in the Ontario Court of Justice. This is good news. Canada is a free and democratic society which means that its citizens must be able to freely discuss and debate ideas without facing criminal prosecution. Bravo.
The Catholic Register has reported on our campaign to save Christian Canada, which is beginning to spread like wildfire. There are some great comments from CLC President Jeff Gunnarson. If you haven’t done so already, please sign our new petition demanding that the Prime Minister of Canada (whoever may eventually be holding this office) retract and reject attempts to strip churches and pro-life groups of their charitable status. 40 Days for Life has now officially kicked off in 660 cities around the world, including some 14 cities here in Canada. Praise God! It’s an excellent opportunity to witness to life, save lives, and even close abortion mills. If you’re looking for something unique to do this Lent, and live nearby one of the vigil locations, this could be for you. Check out the list of Canadian locations here. There is already some good news from this year’s campaigns that you can read about in the “inspiring stories” section.
Make sure you check out this week’s “must see” video in which our own Jack Fonseca reveals the shocking pro-LGBT books children are exposed to in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board in Ontario. The video is a re-recording of the presentation that Jack made to the school board at the end of February. While these books are readily available to children, Jack’s video details what’s in the books — content that no child should ever be exposed to. So, this video should only be watched by parents.
The March edition of CLC National News is now available online. Don’t miss CLC President Jeff Gunnarson’s letter to pro-lifers about why we “cannot sit idly by.”
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about the horrific story of an Ontario man who was found guilty this week of murdering his pregnant girlfriend as he attempted to commit a late-term abortion.
Has the Lord blessed you financially and are you looking for a good cause to give your Lenten alms? Please consider donating using the link below. Every donation helps us further our mission to protect life from conception onwards. Thank you!

Maureen, this week, an Ontario jury convicted a man of first-degree murder for the death of his girlfriend three years ago. It was a gruesome case in which the woman died during the man’s grisly attempt to abort the couple’s baby at six months gestation in the back of a U-Haul van.
Everything about this case is sad and truly horrific.
The woman was already a mother of three daughters by a different man, ages 15, 9, and 4. A new man came on the scene. The woman became pregnant. The man urged her to abort, calling the baby a “parasite.” The woman refused.
The man tricked the woman into thinking they were going on a Thanksgiving weekend getaway. When he had her alone, he bound her hands and feet, gagged her, and attempted to perform a late-term abortion in the back of a rented van using a speculum medical instrument. The woman eventually suffocated to death. The man stashed her body under an abandoned trailer where it was found by police.
During the judgement, Superior Court Justice Gisele Miller told the man that he took away the woman’s choice to keep her unborn child, and then he took her life.
While some justice has been done regarding the man, Wazhir Gafoor, who was sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance of parole for 25 years, there yet remains justice to be done.
The man was not charged for the murder of his second victim, the preborn baby.
This is because in Canada, there exists no law by which someone can be charged for killing a baby if the mother also dies as a result of a violent crime.
There have been attempts to pass such a law, such as with MP Cathay Wagantall’s “Cassie and Molly’s Law” in 2016 and her milder “Violence Against Pregnant Women Act” in 2023. But both attempts were shot down by the Liberal, NDP, and Bloc parties under the influence of Canada’s abortion lobby.
The baby who died in this horrific murder was a human being who deserves the same kind of justice as everyone else. The baby was a boy. His name was Alex. He belonged to a family who loved him.
It is disgraceful that our justice system is so polluted by the abortion agenda that it cannot render justice to Alex. It cannot charge his murderer with a crime. It cannot pass sentence on the one responsible for his death.
This is what happens to a society that accepts abortion: injustice.
While everything is tragic about this case, adding to the tragedy is that baby Alex did not receive justice. His murderer got away.
Our Charter states that “every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to equal protection and equal benefit of the law.” Every individual, except preborn babies…like Alex.
It’s been said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We must pray and work for a Canada that renders justice to all, including preborn humans.
Be bold and daring for life!
