dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
We were glad to see a few media outlets write some excellent stories about our theme launch last week for the upcoming National March for Life. The theme “protection at conception” is certainly newsworthy given the goal of the pro-life movement of one day passing a law that protects preborn life from the moment of its first beginning.
We broke the news last week on social media that the government-funded pro-abortion organization Action Canada had publicly boasted about helping a 19-year-old woman obtain a late-term abortion at 24 weeks. The story was picked up by a few news outlets.
This story is relevant for highlighting how there are no legal protections for preborn humans in Canada at any stage. Killing a preborn child is legally permitted up until the baby has entirely proceeded out of the body of the mother. Our criminal code absurdly defines that a baby only becomes “human” after being fully born. This section of the code is an embarrassment to Canada. It needs to be fully scuttled.
We submitted a pro-life written statement to the UN’s Economic and Social Council meeting, which took place this week. The statement, which was published on the UN’s website, stressed that abortion kills an innocent human being and is therefore “wrong.” We made it clear that abortion is not a human right. We are glad to have a voice at the UN with which we can unequivocally champion preborn humans.
This week’s must-see video features a beautiful young couple who rejected abortion when doctors told them that their baby had health issues. The couple needs your prayers because their baby has not yet been born, and they face a difficult uphill battle.
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about what Trump’s historic pro-life-and-family actions mean for Canada.

“Alvina's Story: Her water broke at 15 weeks. Doctors said she had to abort or she would die…”
Maureen, the Trump administration achieved several major accomplishments in its first weeks that advanced goals of the life and family movement, energizing pro-life supporters worldwide.
These included removing a government website promoting abortion, issuing an executive order affirming that only two sexes exist from conception, and pardoning 23 pro-life activists convicted under Biden.
Trump also reinstated the “Mexico City Policy” to block U.S. funding for overseas abortion groups, enforced the Hyde Amendment to prevent federal abortion funding, and rejoined the Geneva Consensus Declaration, which denies an international right to abortion.
Additionally, his administration withdrew from the World Health Organization, froze U.S. foreign aid, banned gender-related medical procedures on minors, and abolished DEI policies in government.
These actions set a precedent for what it looks like to be politically “conservative” that, I hope, will influence other countries, particularly Canada.
It seems that Trump’s actions have already rubbed off on Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, emboldening him to state publicly that he is “not aware of any other genders than men and women.”
Also, following Trump’s lead, Poilievre recently said that if he were elected as Prime Minister, he would cut Canada’s $15 billion spent on foreign aid to invest it back into Canada. This would be excellent news if it stopped the flow of $700 million annually that goes into funding abortion, contraception, and radical sexual education in the developing world.
I hope that because of Trump blazing a trail for what true conservatism looks like, conservative MPs from across Canada will be emboldened to take a courageous stand on the crucial issues that really matter–life, family, and marriage.
If wins that are happening in the US are going to start happening in Canada, conservative Canadian politicians need to start taking some strategy out of the Trump administration’s playbook.
It's time for our politicians to become bold and daring for life!
