Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
An Ontario hospital is in the midst of starving a disabled man to death. Roger Foley is disabled but able to eat with assistance. He is being denied food by London Health Sciences Centre, where he is receiving care. Why? Because of a dispute over lighting conditions—Roger has severe sensitivity to standard lighting, and staff refuse to accommodate him.
Roger has been surviving on water alone for weeks. He wants to live. He has a basic right to food. Roger must be fed—now. If not, this is medically sanctioned murder. Read all about this in the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition’s report. The group has also launched a petition.
Quebec Life Coalition has launched a campaign to make the provincial government aware of the devastating effects of post-abortion trauma. The group is calling on the government to establish a post-abortion healing program and to launch a public awareness campaign on this crisis. Bravo!
Did you know Alberta Premier Danielle Smith penned a gripping article in the Calgary Herald twenty-five years ago, detailing the horrors of late-term abortion in the province? Neither did I. A local pro-life group is now calling on the Premier to use her position to end this barbaric practice—one that still occurs in hospitals today.

Don’t miss the must-see video of the week in which newly elected MP Andrew Lawton shares his personal story of how he almost committed suicide 15 years ago—and why he’s now backing a new bill to ban euthanasia for the sole reason of mental illness.
Finally, don’t miss my reflection at the end about the baby who now holds the world record for most premature survival—and how this relates to the battle to end abortion.

Andrew Lawton almost died by suicide fifteen years ago while battling depression. If the expansion of MAID coming into force in 2027 were in place then, he’d likely be dead right now. He launching the #IGotBetter campaign to keep hope alive for people living with mental illness.
Maureen, a baby who was born at a gestational age of exactly 21 weeks, or 147 days, and who was 133 days premature, now holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s most premature baby.
Nash Keen was delivered at the University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City on July 5, 2024, after his mom, Mollie, went into premature labour. He weighed less than a grapefruit (285 g) and measured about the length of a standard envelope (9.5 in). Doctors gave him a zero percent chance of survival, but chose to do everything they could to save him. “We just wanted to give Nash a chance,” said Mollie.
To everyone’s surprise, baby Nash responded positively to the medical interventions.
“Caring for a baby born at 21 weeks is very different from typical premature cases,” explained neonatologist Dr. Amy Stanford, who supervised Nash’s resuscitation. “Babies born this early require highly specialized care, constant surveillance, and frequent monitoring. Every hour can make a difference.”
While Nash faced many critical challenges early on, he showed remarkable resilience.
“After those first few extremely delicate weeks, he began to make steady progress. It was truly extraordinary to witness,” Dr. Stanford told Guinness World Records.
After six months in the NICU, Nash was cleared to return home in early January 2025. Today, he is a giggly, happy, thriving one-year-old. He is a miracle child whose life proves this truth: every life is worth fighting for. Nash’s survival shows how modern medicine continues to expand the window of viability.
As pro-life advocates, we marvel at the miracle of each and every life. At the same time, we grieve when we compare Nash’s story to that of babies who are targeted for late-term abortion, even after 21 weeks.
Nash’s story shows what is possible when we choose life. This is the heart of the pro-life movement: the belief that every child is a gift from God and a miracle waiting to be born.
This is why we celebrate babies like Nash. It is also why we cannot remain silent while babies with even older gestational ages continue to be targeted for abortion.
We know the truth. Every life deserves protection. Every abortion is a tragedy. So let us keep telling the truth. Let us continue standing for life. Let us be the voice for the babies who never get the chance to speak.
Their lives depend on us.
Be bold and daring for life!
