For this assignment we were given a task to use wire to make a single shoe. The materials I used for this project were the wire and the tool I used to shape it. I chose to use my right adidas cloud foam sneaker. I started off by taking a fair amount of wire and wiping off the grease. I took the wire and put it around my sneaker to shape the bottom of the shoe for my sculpture. Since I didn't want the bottom of my show to be just one wire; I took another wire shaped exactly like the other and then took smaller pieces to connect the two. This gives it, its three dimensional look.
before we started our shoe sculpture, as a class we all created a box out of wire. I'm glad we did this because I had no idea how to properly bend the wire for it to stay connected and not slide. My wire sculpture box came out very bad because the bends on my wire were not tight enough. However, I am thankful for this mistake because it helped me learn what I need to do for when I do my shoe project.
I continued my wire sculpture and created another layer which is the main part of the shoe where my foot goes in. Since thats all one layer, I couldn't just take a million small pieces of wire to make it look like that. So I took a couple longer pieces and hooked them from the middle to the top of the shoe. To add the three lines for adidas I took smaller wire and and created it with that. I thought it would make a look different and a little better. Also, to make the laces, I took the wire and started bending it into four loops all on one wire. At the end of my project I took the thin wire and made my name onto it and connected it to my shoe.
Overall, I am happy with the way my shoe turned out for the project. I had never done anything like this before and I think making the cubes first, help a lot because I learned and developed a technique on how to bend the wire properly to make the right hook and make sure it doesn't slide around.
