Releasing Chaos

For my sustained investigation number 10, I wanted to continue to use the colorful palate and expressionism ideas that I had been using in a few of my previous artworks. I really like this style of art because I like how to movement of the brushstrokes really shows how the image feels and and I like the use of different colors rather than normal realistic skin tones.

To start off, I sketched out the face I had wanted on a mixed media paper. As you can see in the photo above, the neck is sort of abnormally long, which was unintentional. However, I made the hair flow pretty long, to the end of the paper and so I thought it would look cool to make the neck flow with the long hair. I wanted to use cooler tones on this piece because the last one had a more warm and agitated feel to it. So I started off with purples and blues and then went in with greens and pinks. Eventually I added a hint of red and black to add as shadow purposes only.

Overall, I really like the way this piece turned out, I like the expression it gives off and I want to continue to use this sort of technique for my future artworks. I also like adding my own shapes to the cheeks of th faces, I think it adds a personal touch to it. One thing to improve on for the future could be to make the background stand out a little more, although my main focus is the faces, I may be able to find a way to tie it in.
