For the first ever 3D design assignment, everyone was instructed to create a sculpture out of paper that represented how our first semester went. For this, I chose the word stressful because I felt that the first semester was the most stressful year I've had throughout my high school experience. For this choice of word I had the idea to sculpt a light bulb but that at the top of it, create a crack. This represents my stress because I am trying to think about everything that is going on, that it cracks because there is too much going on which is causing the stress.
The materials I used for this project were water, glue and paper that we were provided with which was a certain size. I used the paper and glue fo the paper mache part. I first thought that it would be really hard to create a lightbulb sculpture without having a template to work with so I then decided to grab a lightbulb to use as my template. I cut small strips of paper and used paper mache as my technique to place them on horizontally all around the lightbulb. however, since I hadn't done paper mache since around second grade, I couldn't remember to correct way to do it. Because of this the paper wasn't sticking on smoothly. I decided to add another layer of the paper but instead place it vertically, that way it would even itself out a little bit. Once it was dry I would just cut the paper off the light bulb and create the crack at the top.
Overall my project turned out horrific and I am very upset with the way it looks. My project malfunctioned and the paper mache stuck to the lightbulb and the paper started to unstick. Therefore it did not look like the shape of a lightbulb and the paper was stuck. I wish I did my project differently and either chose a different design idea or a different word.
