Sustained Investigation #10

Shadows and Lights

Acrylic Paint

For my 10th sustained investigation on my new inquiry question, I've decided to stick with paper on the smaller side. I really like branching out of different materials and papers, so recently I've been using acrylic paint on small canvas paper. Hopefully in the future I will continue to branch out on newer materials.

To start off this project, I began sketching out the face, which was difficult to begin with because it was harder for me to draw a face and its features to the correct size on a smaller piece of than from what I'm used to. After sketching out the face, I went in a drew the features of her face. Once I had finished my final sketch, I decided to create a deep green color because it's not a color I would normally use as a background but I really liked it and it's a dark color so it went well with my work, Lastly, I went in smaller brushes to add the features on the face. My ideas are visually evident in this piece because the idea was to create a portrait using color and shape and I wanted to do as little as blending as possible because I wanted the paint strokes and the movement of it to really stand out. I wanted to show each colors significance in this piece.

Overall, I am happy with the way my project turned out, I am pretty new to creating portraits especially with acrylic paint. This can cause it to not turn out the best but I hope to continue to push myself and my ideas further and deeper into my sustained investigation.
