SI #6

Sleep Deprived

For my sustained investigation number six I wanted to start to get more creative with my portraits and not have just realistic looking features, i wanted to play around with facial features and different sizes and shapes. I started off sketching my idea out in my sketchbook and once I had what I wanted I began drawing on mixed media paper.

The materials I used for this piece was acrylic paint on mixed media paper. I have been using acrylic paint for almost all of my sustained investigations and I really like using it so I'm not sure If i should branch out with different materials or not. I painted the background black to added more of the sleep and dark, tired feel. I used light pinks and purple gray tones for the facial colors. I really like the darkness around the eyes, I think it dramatizes the idea to the tired eyes.

Overall, I like the way this came out because again, it is not exactly a normal looking piece for a portrait. i like the odd shapes and sizes of the face. I also like how the face looks very structured but also droopy at the same time. Moving forward from this, I want ot continue to play with the sizing of facial features and to add more subjects in my piece.
