Sustained Investigation #7

6.5"x5.5"

For my sustained investigation #7 I decided to draw a dog and its owner sleeping. However, there were different rules to this sustained investigation. One rule was that it cannot be a frontal facing perspective and the other was that there has to be more than one subject in it,(in this case it was the dog and its owner.

To start off, I wanted to use a different type of paper for my project, so I decided to use toned pastel paper. For my drawing materials, I decided to use colored pencil because I am pretty familiar with that material and want to teach myself to be better. started by sketching out my drawing and then when I was pleased with the sketch, I went in with the colored pencils. My ideas are visually evident in this because you can see what is going on between the dog and its owner, taking a nap together. I decided to draw a german shepard because I feel like even though they are like guard dogs, they are super sweet and soft and they're one of my favorite dogs.

Overall, I am not pleased with the way my project turned out because I fell like the paper did not work well with the colored pencils, and it left white spots underneath, no matter how hard I would draw over them. I also think I could have done a better job with the burnishing. On top of that, I am not very good at drawing people and I was unhappy with the way my person looked. In the future, I need to started stepping outside the box to bring in more ideas so I can create something that I know I will love.
