For my third sustained investigation, I decided I wanted to add more emotion to the dogs I was creating. So with this, I decided to make a dog laying down with a pouty face. I decided to do this because I wanted to focus on different aspects of dogs and I felt like I was doing more of a dogs whole body then other parts like their face.
The materials I used for this was watercolor paper, colored pencil, and oil pastels. I started off by sketching out the puppy's face and paws. I then went in lightly with adding detail to its face. Firstly, I used many different colors of brown and blended them to be the perfect way I wanted the dog to look like. I used darker brown to shade around the eye area and the lower part of the ears. I then went in a drew the eyes with black and left white areas at an angle so you can get the idea that the puppy is really showing a pouty face. After I had finished the the eyes. I didn't like how the there was sill blank white spaces even though there is supposed to be because it's part of the dog. So I decided to use a white colored pencil to add onto it. Even though it is barely visible, it adds texture to it which makes it stronger. I ended up doing my background last because I didn't know what I wanted to do and I still needed to shade the puppy with the background to give it more depth.
Overall, I am very pleased with the way my project turned out. It actually turned out better than I had thought it would which made me even more proud of it. I am also glad I experienced with new materials like the oil pastels that I had at home. I ended up blending some of those colors and really liked the way it turned out. Next time, if I were to do something different, I would add more depth into the background and the walls etc.
