Time Capsule Drawings

This assignment is something I'm familiar with. I have done it in my past art classes, in foundations of art and 2D design. The task for this project was to create an angle up self portrait (left), an object that you despise (center), and the exterior of a building (right). I started with my angle up self portrait and placed a mirror on the table next to my paper and went of from there. Next, I drew a tomato because it is something I really do not like and is a still life. Lastly, I drew the exterior of my friends house. This project relates to my life because it is all drawings of things about me and my life.

The material I used was pencils and this was solely based on shading. I used lighter pencils when I was first sketching and then came in with my darker pencils to shave and get more defined lines. I also used my finger to blend in the shading to give it a more natural look and give it the shadow effect. I started off my project by sketching out the basics of my face and then and then going in with the detailing and then shading to give it the real life look. For my still life. I placed the tomato in front of me and began drawing from there and then later used the 6B pencil to shade in the dark areas and blend to give the shadow effect of it. While I was drawing the exterior of the house, I sat in the hammock and drew the angle of the house. As you can see in the picture above of the house, I tried my best to draw the different colors of the sky just by shading. The one repeating pattern in each drawing is that you can see the finger prints I accidently made which makes it look a little bit patchy but also fits well with it.

I really like the way my artwork turned out. I like that I used the same one material for all projects. I got to experience with it for three different projects and the nice thing about it is that is can do so much for just one pencil. My favorite art piece was with the tomato or the self portrait. I like the way the tomato turned out but I also think the self portrait is unique even though it turned out nothing like I wanted it to. Sometimes I found it really difficult to shade because sometimes it would look like a dark spot with no purpose, so I had to figure out a way for it to blend in correctly. For my next project, my next steps could be to be more careful with shading if I choose to do it again. However, I worked hard on these three projects and I like the way they turned out in the end.
