Sculptural Concentration #2

For the section piece of my plant concentration assignment, I decided to do create a flower head made out of wire. I chose to do this because I really like to use wire as my materials. I originally had the idea to create a pop up flower book kind of thing but that was not working out as how I had hoped and didn't look as 3 dimensional as I wanted it to. I then moved on to where I was going to make a garden out of sculpey with small flowers to place inside. However, when I sculpted them, it wasn't turning out how I wanted to so I had the wire sculpture in the back of my mind so that's what I ended up doing.

The materials I used for this project was just wire. I used the thicker wire and I started off by cutting a long strip and rolling it up and then crossing it over the opposite to make the head of the flower. After that, I went back it with the same wire and cut out a few strips to form the pedal by using the pliers. I made two hooks on the ends of each pedal to hook it to the head of the flower and tighten it so it will stay. I didn't really have any struggles with this project because I really like to use wire and I find it fun and it doesn't have to look perfect because it has that more abstract feel.

Overall I am proud of the way my project turned out and I would definitely use wire again. However, I would like to branch out more with what I use the wire with and hopeful make something bigger.
