Colored Pencil, Oil Pastel
For my sustained investigation number 15 I wanted to continue what I had done with my previous sustained investigation. I had just recently started using brighter and unrealistic colors which I really like. I decided to continue to make the skin color different and use a bunch of bright colors because I thought that would look different and more attention-grabbing.
To start off, I used a photo reference and I went off from that. I used a photo with a prop (sunglasses) because I thought it would add more to my piece and really sent the tone of it. Once I was done sketching, I started going over everything with colored pencil first and then later used oil pastel and then went again with colored pencil for detailing and stuff. I did the glasses last because I had a hard time deciding if I wanted them to be bright as well or just tone it down, and I like that I chose black. I also like that I used complementary colors like purple and yellow and the blue and orange.
Overall I really like the way this one came out because it's super bright and it's a different material. I haven't really used colored pencil in my previous artworks but I do like the way it looks with the oil pastel. However the eyes are hard because they are small and the oil pastel tends to smear into it. I added a slight squiggle pattern to the background but in the future I will have to find a way to make it look more prevalent because I don't think my peers noticed it. . Anyways, I still am very happy with the way it turned out and it may be my favorite one.
