Drawing Together #3

4" x 5"

Mentally Trapped

For my third drawing together assignment, I wanted to create something that kind of reflected off of what is going on in people's heads as well as mine. To me this is as if people people feel as if they are trapped in their own thoughts because being stuck instead with not much to do and no schedule gives people more time to think and keeps the mental aspect flowing.

I pictured a girl not showing her face but more focused on the visual thoughts surrounding her head. I started off with sketching her body and not adding clothing because it's not the main focus. The materials I used are pencils and watercolor paint. I sketched with a pencil sketch and then started blending with my finger to add some value to the girl. Later I went over with the red paint to act as the racing thoughts surrounding her head. My ideas are visually evident in this piece because it shows the new reality of the world and how it is affecting people mentally. In addition to that, I thought the text would add a lot to th epiece and really bring it all together because I feel like it really speaks for the artwork.

Overall, I do like the way this came out, I think if I had put more thought and had more of a variety of materials to work with, this could have come out as a really deep and meaningful piece. I've always found it difficult to use pencils with my artwork but I think if you can get comfortable with it, it can turn out really nicely.
