Duck Stamp

For this project, I was assigned to create a duck stamp. For this I had to follow a specific rubric which allowed me to pick any duck I wanted to create and then I had to make sure it including to following so it would look realistic. For this assignment I choose to draw a Northern Pintail duck. I choose to draw this duck because I really liked the color details on it and I also liked its long tail.

The materials I used for this project were, bristol paper, colored pencil, regular pencil, and watercolor paint. Firstly, I started by printing a picture of the Northern Pintail duck and then graphed the picture as well as the bristol paper. I went in with pencil and followed each square that contained part of the duck in it but not the background. This was because it was required to not copy the same image so I decided to make my own background for it. Once I had my sketch of the duck with pencil, I began to color the Northern Pintail duck with colored pencil. Once the duck was finished with colored pencil, I made the decision that I wanted to make the background watercolor because I thought it would look more realistic than colored pencil. I took the time to go in with the watercolor to make the lake that the duck was in with different shades or green, brown and a little bit of blue.

Overall, I am very pleased with how this project turned out and I think it's my favorite out of all of them. I worked really hard on this project and I am proud of how real it looks. One thing I am especially proud of is the water. The water took a lot of time but it turned out just the way I wanted it. Although I really like the way the project turned out, there were still some parts that took awhile to do and were challenging. The most time consuming and challenging part was drawing on the small detailed dots and it was hard to make them perfect. Besides that I still think my project turned out very nicely and I am satisfied with it.
