Zen-tangle Emotion

For this assignment, the idea was to create a piece that showed emotion through just making lines; like a zen-tangle. Before we started our actual assignment, there was a practice paper to make 16 different zen-tangles for a different emotion. After all 16 emotions are filled in their box, I chose which one I liked the best to move forward with my final project. In this case I chose the emotion excited. I started off by sketching out the design on the canvas paper with pencil. after sketching out the lines I went over them with sharpie to darken the lines and then eventually add watercolor to them. So the materials I ended up using were sharpies, pencil, and watercolor.

Once I started adding the watercolor onto my project, I realized that there were light pencil markings on the paper that were still shown through the yellow watercolor. So then I decided it would be best to go over it in many layers. However, since the watercolor idea was not working well and I had to go over in many layers, the sharpie lines were getting covered up. In that case I was going to need to go over them again.

A problem that I ran into during this project was not only the watercolor issue but my paint was not drying. I had let it sit for a day and then I put it in an art folder thinking it was dry but my artwork ended up sticking to the folder causing some of the paint to come off. I then had to go over the paint once again to even out the tone. I then left my artwork to dry for a little more than a day and had came back to the same problem when I began to go over the paint with sharpie to darken the lines. Once I started drawing the lines it started to make the paint come off of my artwork. Anyways, we decided it was best to hang up my work and have a fan blow on it until it was finally dry. I then finished my artwork by drawing the sharpie lines. One thing I would do differently on this project was to probably use a different type of material to create my art piece with, maybe trying pens for an experience.
