Sustained Investigation #16

Orange Glasses

5.5" X 3.5"

Oil Pastel and Colored Pencil

My very last sustained investigation, number 16. I kept with the same theme and using the same materials because of what i had to make use with at home. I like continuing with the bright colors and it really bring out my passion and what kind of art i like to create.

To begin with, I used a photo reference of myself wearing funky glasses.and I went off from that. I continued to add props like the sunglasses because of adding more detail. The materials used were oil pastel and colored pencil on mixed media and a pencil to sketch. Once I was done sketching, I started using oil pastel first. It was kind of impulsive and it wasn't the best idea because oil pastel it really thick and hard to get in small places. Since I was limited with colors, it was hard to decide what colors I wanted it use for what places on the portrait.

Overall I really don't like the way this one came out because I spent a lot of time on it but it just looks like it was rushed and it didn't turn out how I thought it was going to turn out. Although I have been using oil pastel more recently I am still not quite used to it and how to use the material. However it was hard to add depth and get very dark lines for things like the glasses. It looks more cartoonish than I had wanted it to. It was also very difficult with the smudging onto the border and overall, I wish it had looked different.
