Reflective

Switching gears, back into my sustained investigation, I was inspired to create a portrait similar to the Stress Relief piece that had recently won an award for Scholastics.

I started off by sketching I know I wanted to use paint because I had been using a colored pencil for my other assignments and I like using the paint to add emotion to the colors behind the painting. the materials I used were acrylic paint and posca pens on Bristol paper. I started off by sketching the face on a 8" x 9" piece. I wanted to make the look not directly on so I kind of tried to go for like a side-eye. then went in with paint colors trying to keep the same pattern with blues and yellows and some pinks then I got excited and added orange and purple and other colors. Painting eyes has always been the hardest thing for me so I decided to bring out my posca pens to see if I can get better detailing. And then I decided to touch up some painting areas with the markers and I really liked the markings that it left so I kept going with that on the face. For the small background area that I had, I used a shiny eggshell color.

Overall I do really like the way this turned out and I like creating art with this kind of expressionism. I think it's something I want to continue to do for my other sustained investigations and possibly add more subjects to them.
