Dear BRMS Families,
It was wonderful returning to school and reconnecting with our students this week after a long break. We are looking forward to the warmer temperatures and longer hours of having daylight.
As the weather continues to get warmer, we are seeing more of our students making after school plans that do not involve school supervised clubs. Several students are taking the opportunity to play basketball on our outside court, or walk over to the Jolly or the Jericho Market. We do want to support our students as they become more independent, but we are also concerned about the safety of our students while they are not supervised by our staff members. Please be sure to have a conversation with your child about their after school plans. Below you will find a list of expectations that we will be going over with our students this week.
Our late buses are only for students who participate in officially sponsored clubs and activities. Students who do not participate in school activities will not be allowed to ride our late buses. Students will need to call home for a ride home if they stay after school without attending a club.
Students participating in athletics need to go directly to practice. They should not be going to the store before practice, even if their schedule allows them time to do so.
Students who have a later practice that is not immediately after school should plan on going home or to the public library until practice. We are unable to provide supervision during the time between school dismissal and practice. Please let us know if this is a barrier to your child’s participation in our athletic program.
Students will not be allowed to go to the store after school and then get on our regular buses. We have noticed an increased number of students running to the store to get a snack and then try to catch their normal bus. Students will not be allowed to ride the bus home and will need to call families for a ride.
Students who wish to gather with friends after school or walk to the park after dismissal will need to arrange a ride with their family. Students cannot stay in the building unsupervised as an afterschool plan.
Students are allowed to access our campus after school but they will not be supervised by our staff and they will not be able to access school transportation.
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns about these expectations.

The Sleep Out is an annual one -night event in which people of all ages, across Chittenden and Franklin Counties, sleep outside in solidarity with youth facing homelessness.
BRMS Captain’s Gregory Martin (5/6 School Counselor) and Jeff Warren (Team Journey) invite you all to get involved with us for the 2026 Spectrum STUDENT Sleep Out at BRMS on March 26th, 2026.
Why Sleep Out?
The Sleep Out provides a unique opportunity for our students to understand the serious problem of youth homelessness. By asking friends and family to support their efforts with monetary donations, participants make a difference in the lives of the 1,400+ homeless and at -risk youth served by Spectrum each year. We want participants to leave with a better understanding of what homelessness is like, the impact of homelessness on our communities, and some of the programs and services that Spectrum provides to youth in need.
We raise funds & awareness! Join us and make a difference!
Where does the money go?
Spectrum Youth and Family Services
BRMS has participated in the SSSO for the last 12 years and has currently raised over $130,000. Each dollar raised has helped a Vermont teenager who has struggled with homelessness.
Here is the video we showed at CPR and something you may want to show your friends, family and co-workers?
And, with your parent(s) / guardian(s) permission, please sign up here and start your fundraising!

Hello families, staff, and community at large!
As you may already be aware, the Browns River Action Group (BRAG) was established so that parents, staff, and teachers can work together to support and enrich student life at our school. We appreciate the support you've given over the past few years, and look forward to continuing our work together.
At this time, we are seeking your input to better serve our community, and plan for the years ahead. We appreciate your thoughtful responses and welcome your engagement here:
The survey will be open through Friday, March 27. We will share the results of the survey at the April BRAG meeting and on the BRAG website.
Warmly,
Karen Drawbaugh, 2025-2026 President
Sarah Greer, 2025-2026 Treasurer
Rebecca Marsh, 2025-2026 Secretary
