Dear BRMS Families,
The new year is off to a great start at BRMS. Our basketball teams are in full swing for the season. We have had many exciting games in our gym and our fan participation has been electric. Many of our students come back to support and cheer on their peers for the games.
It is wonderful seeing our community of students coming out to support one another.
Next week will be our first concert of the year. The 5th and 6th grade band and chorus will be performing at 7:00 on Thursday, January 19th. The 7th and 8th grade concert will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 7:00. The participation rate in our ensembles is tremendous so we are expecting high attendance for this event. We will be utilizing our front field for any overflow parking. Be sure to get to BRMS early in order to get seated before the start of our event.
Our school community had a preview of the music before our December break. It was amazing watching the skills that our musicians have developed in such a short amount of time. Be sure to come out to hear some incredible music and we look forward to seeing all of you at our performances!
Students will not have school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Our teachers will be in school on that day for professional development work. A part of our day will be dedicated to our Anti-Bias/Anti Racist work that we have been focusing on as a district. Our discussion on Monday morning will focus on Dominant Culture Characteristics. Next week we will be talking about the meaning of MLK day in our NEST groups. It is our goal over the coming years as a school community to honor this holiday as a day of service rather than just a day off from school. As a school we are committed to recognizing the true intention of the MLK holiday. We will look to engage families in this discussion as we move forward as a community.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Happy 2023 BRMS Families!
With a new year, comes a new bulletin board here at BRMS. Students and staff who walk into the school are greeted with this sparkly board of encouraging New Year affirmations. In addition, we have been weaving the newness of this year into our conversations with students by focusing on goal and intention setting.
A New Year is a great time to reflect upon specific areas in our lives in which we want to improve, increase, reduce or refine. Students have started working hard on creating S.M.A.R.T goals (ask them what this acronym stands for!) such as drinking more water, becoming a faster baseball pitcher, eating healthier or reading more!
Thanks for partnering with us in encouraging your child(ren) to be their best selves and reminding them that, with time and intentionality, we can all do hard things! Have a happy and healthy start to the New Year!
March Madness volleyball is coming up! We are excited to announce that in addition to our competitive teams, we are able to offer an in-house club this year for kids who want to explore the sport in a more relaxed environment. More details to come, but for now, check out our BRMS volleyball page with information about tryouts and winter drop-in sessions.
