Dear BRMS Families,
Our 7th and 8th Grade students completed their SBAC testing today. Over the next week we will be completing make-up tests for students who did not finish these assessments. Results from these assessments will be mailed to families early in fall.
We have five staff members who are retiring this year. Scott Cole, Dianne Sisson, Dodi Gomez, Tamara Pless and Raymond LaRose have served the BRMS community for many years. I want to thank all of them for their commitment to the students and families of Jericho and Underhill. They have positively influenced the lives of many children during their time at BRMS. We will greatly miss having them in our halls next year but are happy that they will be able to spend more time with their families and friends.
8th grade Recognition Night is set for June 9th at 6:30 p.m. This event will be held outside on our athletic fields. Families are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to sit on during the ceremony. There is no limit to the amount of guests for our outdoor event. In the event of inclement weather we will be using our gymnasium. The event will be followed by a party for our 8th grade students only.
Kevin
Dear Families of 8th Graders!
Mark your calendars! As the year draws to a close, it is time to celebrate our 8th graders. What an accomplishment to finish middle school during a pandemic! In addition to the fantastic lineup of field trips arranged by the teachers, the school and 8th grade families host an 8th Grade Recognition Night. This year Recognition Night will take place on Thursday, June 9th at 6:30pm. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outside at BRMS. Following the ceremony, 8th graders are invited to play outdoor games, eat s’mores and other refreshments around small bonfires. This is a special opportunity for 8th graders to party (with chaperones) as a class before they move onto high school. Families and siblings will be asked to leave and return for their students by 9:00pm.
This event is funded primarily by the 8th grade families and Browns River Middle School. It is also customary for each class to donate a gift to the school. For many years the school has needed a new sign. This year the 8th grade class will donate a new granite sign for the school. Next year, the 8th graders will donate the installation.
This gift will provide a practical and lasting recognition of our students’ time at BRMS. We understand that every family has a different financial situation, but we ask that families of 8th graders consider donating $25. Any amount is welcome. Some families may be able to donate more and some none at all. Your contribution will help pay for the granite sign AND cover the costs of the recognition night (signs with each student’s picture, food, a photographer, and decorations). Please send your donations by Friday, June 3rd. Cash and checks are welcome and can be delivered to the school office marked BRMS BRAG: 8th Grade Recognition on the envelope. Checks should be made out to BRMS BRAG with 8th Grade Recognition in the memo. You may also pay digitally with this link: https://square.link/u/KSFh2VkD or the QR code below.
We are really hoping families can donate, so far we have only received donations from 17 families. The decorating committee is looking for black paint to paint the ARCH if anyone has extra black paint to please contact Amanda at amanda.cowan@mmuusd.org. If anyone has lawn games for the social hour after the recognition ceremony to please contact Nancy at sbgymnastics5@aol.com.
Thank you for your consideration and support of our 8th graders! If you would like to help with Recognition Night or are able to loan lawn games for that night, please contact Leah Rowe at btvvyd2016@gmail.com.
To all 7th grade families,
Part of the tradition at BRMS is to have the 7th grade families be a part of the 8th grade recognition night with either helping with food or with clean up. This year the 8th grade families would like help with the clean up. Recognition night is on Thursday June 9th and clean up would start at 9pm.
We will need 8-10 parents to help take the decorations down and clean up the food after the social hour the 8th graders have after the recognition ceremony. It should take about 1 hour. The social hour starts at 8pm and will end at 9pm, so we will need you to show up around 9pm. As long as it is not raining, the social hour will be outside behind the school.
Please contact Leah Rowe at btvvyd2016@gmail.com or Tina at cbanning40@hotmail.com.

Growing up has always been a challenge, but it seems today's kids are having an especially rough time. Anxiety, depression, and the youth suicide rate have been on the rise for the last decade, especially for girls and children of color. It's safe to say that the need for easily accessible mental health tools that kids can use privately and safely is more critical than ever.
Depending on your family's needs, you can find apps and sites designed for immediate help, ongoing support, information, and positive mental health habits. If your kid is going to use any of these tools, it's a good idea to review them yourself to see how they work and to check their privacy policies to learn how they handle sensitive information. You can contact renee.langevin@mmuusd.org if you'd like to know more about data privacy.
June is just around the corner, and so is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, May 31 - June 3! We are so excited to celebrate our BRMS staff! We hope to offer a week of goodies including snacks, sweet treats, and a catered lunch.
This year families can participate a few different ways: SIGN UP to bring store-bought snacks and treats or donate a monetary gift to help pay for lunch and other treats.
To donate, families can click HERE to give online, or drop off cash or check (made out to BRMS BRAG) to the main office. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for supporting Appreciation Week!

Practices are held at the Mt. Mansfield High School track.
The youngest age group includes all children who turn six years old during 2022, the oldest age group includes all athletes up to those who will turn 15 in 2022. We will also be continuing our summer cross-country program which will meet Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 at Mills Riverside Park in Jericho. You can go to all of the practices or pick and choose which ones you want.
We stress participation, sportsmanship, and having fun. All athletes will be introduced to basic track and field techniques and proper running form. Athletes are encouraged to try all the different events and find out which they like best. All are welcome and we especially need seventh and eighth graders, it’s an excellent way to find out about track before you get to the high school.
