RIVER RAIDER
Dear Families:
It is not often that we have an April snow day, earthquake, and eclipse within a week of each other! We hope you enjoyed the late winter weather but hopefully the warmer weather will be sticking around next week. We sent our students home with their eclipse glasses this week and we are all looking forward to the event on Monday. Chittenden Solid Waste District (CWSD) is organizing collection sites for these glasses to prevent them from being thrown away and to give them a chance to be reused. To support this effort, students may return their glasses to BRMS by April 12th and we bring them to one of the CWSD collection sites. Please remember that we do not have any school on April 8th in preparation for the increased number of visitors to our region. Here are some tips for safely viewing the eclipse. Eclipse Viewing Safety.
BRMS students completed their volleyball season on Saturday with the Jamboree at ADL. This year we had 4 teams and over 50 participants. Next week our spring sports season begins with track, baseball, and softball. Please contact Matt Lennon or check out our website for more information about these activities.
Have a great week and enjoy the eclipse!
Kevin
After School Expectations/Supervision
As the weather continues to get warmer we are seeing more of our students making after school plans that do not involve school supervised clubs. Several students are taking the opportunity to play basketball on our outside court, walk over to the Jolly or the Jericho Market. We do want to support our students as they become more independent but we are also concerned about the safety of our students while they are not supervised by our staff members. Please be sure to have a conversation with your child about their after school plans. Below you will find a list of expectations that we will be going over with our students this week.
Our late buses are only for students who participate in officially sponsored clubs and activities. Students who do not participate in school activities will not be allowed to ride our late buses. Students will need to call home for a ride home if they stay after school without attending a club.
Students participating in athletics need to go directly to practice. They should not be going to the store before practice, even if their schedule allows them time to do so.
Students who have a later practice that is not immediately after school should plan on going home or to the public library until practice. We are unable to provide supervision during the time between school dismissal and practice. Please let us know if this is a barrier to your child’s participation in our athletic program.
Students will not be allowed to go to the store after school and then get on our regular buses. We have noticed an increased number of students running to the store to get a snack and then try to catch their normal bus. Students will not be allowed to ride the bus home and will need to call families for a ride.
Students who wish to gather with friends after school or walk to the park after dismissal will need to arrange a ride with their family. Students cannot stay in the building unsupervised as an afterschool plan.
Students are allowed to access our campus after school but they will not be supervised by our staff and they will not be able to access school transportation.
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns about these expectations.
