Relax and Read celebration for Team Endurance
Dear BRMS Families:
Over the past two weeks we had to contact trace for two academic teams and provide virtual instruction for approximately 50 students. The contact tracing task is complicated and challenging for a variety of reasons. We want to thank all of our families for their patience and support as we worked through the process. The nurses and teachers are working incredibly hard to make sure all of our children are safe and well cared for during this time period and your understanding is an important part of that process. Although we hope that we will not be required to go through this process again we are prepared to meet that challenge for any future cases that might arise. Please continue to follow all the guidance about staying home when sick, testing, and returning to school. Strict adherence to these guidelines will help us to keep our students in school all year.
Finally I would like to remind parents to schedule a time to meet to discuss your child’s academic progress since the start of the school year. These conferences are extremely important and we will make every effort to make sure that we are able to schedule meetings that fit into your schedule.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Kevin
Stay Home When Sick
It is very important that your child not come to school if they are experiencing any illness symptoms. It is incredibly important that everyone follows this guidance. We are experiencing COVID in our school district. COVID symptoms look like both allergies and the common cold. Please do not send your child to school with any of the following symptoms as we will need to send them home: Fever (100.4°F or higher), Nausea, Cough, Vomiting, Shortness of Breath, Diarrhea, Sore Throat, Fatigue, Congestion, Runny Nose, Muscle Aches, Loss of Smell or Taste, Headache. If your child requires Tylenol, Advil or cold medicine for illness, they must stay home. We absolutely understand the burden that is put onto families keeping students home with what appears to be minor symptoms. But, by keeping all students with symptoms at home, we reduce the possibility of illness and COVID-19 spreading. Please note that anyone with illness symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status, must stay home. Link To Student Home Health Screening
Return to School Following Illness
If your child’s symptoms last less than 24 hours, please send them back to school. If they last longer than 24 hours, please be in touch with your family doctor and or get a PCR test for COVID 19 - no at-home antigen tests please. You can choose not to test or contact your child’s doctor, but then your child must stay out of school until 10 days have passed since the symptoms first began. Please be sure to communicate with your child’s school nurse about your child’s return to school plan. Please read this important document from the Vermont Department of Health. Dear Parents/Guardians of students who ride the bus: As a friendly reminder, when your student's individual, daily transportation plan needs to change, please contact the school in advance so a bus pass can be provided to your student by the school office. The bus pass should be handed to the driver when boarding so the driver is prepared for the change. This also allows the transportation department to evaluate available seats on the bus. Thank you.
BRMS Boys and Girls basketball sign up sheets are posted outside the gym door. The playing season will start mid-November. More information to follow.
Cooking Club will now meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (2:45-3:25).
Willie Lee here from the BRMS Design Lab. I have a few quick announcements as we close in on the end of the first trimester of the school year…
Coding and Robotics club is starting up next week… We will be meeting on Tuesday afternoons from 2:45-4:00. Students who cannot get picked up at 4:00 will have to take the activity bus at 2:25.
There has been a tremendous amount of interest, and right now we are at capacity. If your student was unable to get in, there will be multiple sessions this year to accommodate all those who might be interested.
We are looking to collect any old tv/dvd remote controls that folks might have lying around collecting dust. We plan to use them for some coding and controlling some of the robots we have in the lab. The only criteria is that they need to have a numbered keypad 0-8.
Thanks,
Willie Lee

Dear BRMS Families,
We are excited to be starting our bike unit next week in Physical Education! The Bike Smart trailer will be visiting our school from November 1-November 19. Students should plan on dressing warm! Winter jackets, hats, and gloves are strongly recommended.
All students grades 5-8 will be participating in the unit. This program brings around 40 bikes (of all sizes), helmets, and bike skills training materials to our school.
Your child is free to bring their own bike and helmet to use in class! Don’t forget to label the bike and helmet (masking tape and a sharpie work well) so that they don’t get misplaced. If you choose not to bring a helmet or bike, that’s fine too. The trailer comes equipped with enough bikes and helmets for the students. The helmets will be disinfected after each use. Since we will be doing this unit for a few weeks, if your child chooses to bring their own bike, we can store it safely in our garage here, or you can plan on bringing the bike home after their PE day. If you want to work out those details, feel free to email matthew.lennon@mmuusd.org.
During the time that the trailer will be at our school, we’ll be dedicating PE classes to bike skills and safety. We will be learning how to check that a bicycle is safe to ride, as well as how to brake safely and effectively, turn smoothly, avoid road hazards, be alert for vehicles on the road, and more.
We were able to bring this trailer to our school through the generosity of the Bike Smart program. Bike Smart is funded by annual grants from RiseVT, Governor’s Highway Safety Program, and Kohl’s Department Stores to the Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen Health Care. The program is powered by Local Motion, Vermont’s nonprofit advocate for safe walking and biking. For more information, visit https://www.localmotion.org/bike_smart.
We are thrilled that your child will be spending time on a bike with us! Let’s hope for good bicycling weather!
Sincerely,
Matt Lennon & Tamara Pless

Have you noticed fewer and fewer Box Tops on your favorite products?
That's because in 2019 Box Tops for Education went 100% digital. Instead of clipping and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops are now earned digitally via receipt scans.
Don't worry! We will continue to accept clipped Box Tops until they expire. Please send in your unexpired Box Tops Clips to the school office.
