RIVER RAIDER

Dear BRMS Families

This week we weathered the first signs of winter here at BRMS. Please remember that we bring our students outside the entire school year and students should be prepared for the colder temperatures. Our school community recognizes the importance of providing plenty of movement opportunities for our students throughout the school day in order for them to be more available for learning.  Please let us know if  you need any support in finding appropriate clothing for your child during these winter months.

Additionally, I would like to remind you of the 5/6 party and 7/8 dance coming in the next couple of weeks. You can find details about the events below.

Have a great weekend!

Kevin

5/6  Party

Nov. 17 2:45-3:15

The 5/6 party will have a DJ, fast dancing, games and snacks for the students to enjoy.   Permission slips can be found here or in the main office.  All students must have adult permission to attend the event. Parent chaperones are needed for the party.  Please be sure to sign up in the BRAG section of the River Raider if you can help chaperone.  The event will end at 4:15 and families need to pick up their child at that time.   There are no late buses for this event.

7th/8th Grade Dance Guidelines

Dec. 1  7-9:00 p.m.

The dances begin at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm.  Students are responsible for arranging a ride home at 9:00pm.  The chaperones for the dance consist of administrators, faculty, and/or parents.  Any student who cannot or will not follow the  guidelines will be asked to leave and parents will be notified to come pick them up.

Be part of making our Safe Routes to Schools in Jericho

Jericho Elementary School, Browns River Middle School , the Jericho Planning Commission, and Local Motion are working together to form a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Task Force, and we’re looking for community members who want to get involved!

SRTS is a national program that promotes walking and biking through infrastructure improvement, education, and incentives to encourage a culture of walking and biking to school.

Did you know that physical movement at the beginning of the day helps with mental health challenges, increases attention span and improves academic achievement? By walking and biking, students also have the opportunity to connect with peers and gain a connection to their community. In addition to our District-wide Task Force, we envision school-based groups  made up of representatives from staff, administrators, parents and interested community members who will collaborate on events, help the Town understand issues that need to be addressed, work to address school travel barriers, and more.

Anyone interested should contact Sabina Ernst (Jericho PC) beanvet@gmail.com or  Bonnie Hooper (Local Motion) at bonnie@localmotion.org

5/6 Fall Party!

The 5/6 Party is next Friday, November 17 from 3:00 - 4:15pm.

What is the 5/6 Party?  An after-school event for 5th & 6th grade students.

There will be music, games and prizes in the cafeteria.  The gym will be open, and if the weather’s nice, we’ll open the doors for outdoor space too!

How do 5/6 students sign up? All it takes is $5.00 per student and this permission slip. Families needing financial support may contact kevin.hamilton@mmuusd.org.

What else do I need to know? We need volunteers!

Sign up HERE to provide a snack, help set up, run a game, etc.
