Dear BRMS Families,
It is that time of year for parent teacher conferences at BRMS. Teachers have been meeting with families over the past couple of weeks to discuss student progress with families. We are always happy about the amount of family participation we have in these meetings. Please be sure to reach out to your child’s teachers if you have not already scheduled an appointment. We truly look forward to connecting with families during these conferences and the family/teacher connection is an important part in the academic and social/emotional success of all students.
The turnout at our fall amount house was amazing! There was great enthusiasm in our families, students and staff as we fully welcomed our community into the building for the first time in 3 years. The scavenger hunt was a huge success and we had four students who won a BRMS hoodie that will be presented to them in December. We will be ordering our BRMS gear from JoAnn’s Uniforms. The Browns River Action Group (BRAG) will be providing an ordering portal in the near future for students and families to purchase their own BRMS schwag from JoAnn’s. Part of the proceeds from purchases will be used to support BRAG’s work to support the BRMS community. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information in future River Raiders.
Our Nest Advisory groups are off to a great start, Students are making connections with their Nest leaders and their classmates. Our teachers are thoroughly enjoying meeting new students who they do not typically connect with during the school day. Below you will find information about our next Nest time.
Have a wonderful weekend and sure to get out and enjoy the fall foliage!

It is safe to say that peer relationships and friendships are a crucial part of the middle school experience and that as caregivers it is inevitable that we will process the topic of friendship with our child(ren).
While at times it may be challenging for your tween/teen to navigate their friendships, it is a developmentally appropriate process for them to partake in. This process aids in them understanding both themselves and others around them.
One way that we can support our conversations with our child(ren) when referring to friendships/friendship traits, is to use the language “healthy”/“unhealthy” vs. “good”/ “bad.” The attached chart provides a great foundation for broaching this topic together. As your child(ren’s) School Counselors, we will continue to support all students in initiating, building and maintaining healthy friendships with one another. Be well and stay kind!

Browns River Middle School, with the help of some dedicated parents, is gearing up for winter and planning for an exciting opportunity to get students to Bolton Valley for some night skiing one day a week with transportation to and from the mountain.
To make this happen we need to see who might be interested in participating as a student skier/rider OR as a parent chaperone.
BRMS is happy to offer a series of drop-in volleyball sessions over the next few weeks. There are sessions specifically for 5th/6th graders, and sessions for 7th/8th graders - make sure you sign up for the correct one! Athletes may join however many sessions they like; it is first come first serve however, with 14 spots available each session. Click here to sign up! Any questions? Contact Juliana Dixon at julianadixon@mmuusd.org.
When: Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:25
Who: Everyone is invited!
What you need: Nothing, we have everything you need!
Why: Build leadership, problem solving, and cooperative learning skills
Is it like the Strangers Things 4 Hellfire club?: Yes in that it's dramatic and fun, no in that the monsters the kids fight do not actually exist in an upside down parallel universe. Probably.
Browns River Action Group (BRAG), the parent teacher organization at BRMS, helps promote student self-esteem, supports school staff, and assists in efforts to solve school needs through volunteering and fundraising.
If you would like more information, please email brmsbrag@mmuusd.org.
