RIVER RAIDER

Dear BRMS Families:

This week most of our teams concluded their fall sports season at BRMS. Thank you to all of the coaches who spent their afternoons helping our students develop their athletic skills in soccer and field hockey. Our cross country teams have their state meet on Oct. 30th at Hard’ack Recreation Park in St. Albans. The BRMS girls team won the Chittenden County Championship and our boys team finished 4th out of 17 teams. Congratulations to all of our athletes for a wonderful season. It is always great to connect with our families out on the fields and we look forward to seeing you in our gym to support our basketball and volleyball teams this winter.

Early this week we mailed out all of the individual Spring 2022 SBAC assessment results to our families. Please remember that these assessments are only one indicator of student progress on a particular day. Here is a link to the letter that explains the SBAC assessment in more detail. Be sure to look over the results of these assessments and contact us with any questions. If you have not received these assessment results please contact the BRMS front office.

We have two exciting events for our students coming up in November! On November 11th we will host our first 7/8 dance. On November 18th we will be hosting our 5/6 party immediately after school. More details will be found in November’s editions of the River Raider.

It looks like we have beautiful weather this weekend. Be sure to get outside and enjoy the warmth while it lasts!

Have a great weekend.

Ski/Ride Bus to Bolton Valley is on!

There is plenty of interest in the after school program to Bolton Valley in February so we are moving forward with the program. Please fill out this form. Your registration is not complete until the AfterSchool Program Enrollment form (link in registration form) is complete and given to the main office along with payment. Checks should be made to BRMS.

There is a limit of 45 due to the bus so sign ups are on a first-come first-serve basis. If you do not need transportation you can still sign up to receive the group ticket price.

Counseling Connections

It is safe to say that peer relationships and friendships are a crucial part of the middle school experience and that as caregivers it is inevitable that we will process the topic of friendship with our child(ren).

While at times it may be challenging for your tween/teen to navigate their friendships, it is a developmentally appropriate process for them to partake in. This process aids in them understanding both themselves and others around them.

One way that we can support our conversations with our child(ren) when referring to friendships/friendship traits, is to use the language “healthy”/“unhealthy” vs. “good”/ “bad.” The attached chart provides a great foundation for broaching this topic together. As your child(ren’s) School Counselors, we will continue to support all students in initiating, building and maintaining healthy friendships with one another. Be well and stay kind!

Our fall drop-in volleyball sessions are now completely full, but the interest list has been posted for our March Madness volleyball club! If your student thinks they might want to join the team, make sure they add their name to the interest list on the bulletin board next to the gym.

When: Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:25

Who: Everyone is invited!

What you need: Nothing, we have everything you need!

Why: Build leadership, problem solving, and cooperative learning skills

Is it like the Strangers Things 4 Hellfire club?: Yes in that it's dramatic and fun, no in that the monsters the kids fight do not actually exist in an upside down parallel universe. Probably.
