Dear BRMS Families,
We hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break with your family and friends. Our students returned refreshed and ready to learn as we move into the winter months.
Our students continue to enjoy the many after school activities that are happening at BRMS. We just finished up our NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writer's Month) on Wednesday. We had dozens of students writing their novels while enjoying rich conversations and tasty treats. Math Club, Magic Club, Dungeons and Dragons, Pride Club, Drama Club and the School Newspaper all continue to meet weekly. The River Raider will continue to be a place where you can find information about our club offerings. The BRMS basketball season has started and our first home “A” game will be on Friday December 9th and our first home “B” game will be on December 12th. Be sure to get out to support our teams this season.
Teachers have been working hard on completing student report cards this week. The first trimester report cards will be mailed home on Monday, December 9th. This information will provide you with details about your child’s work over the first part of the school year. Please be sure to contact us if you have any questions or concerns that you may have regarding your child’s grades.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Kevin

8th graders Violet Clough and Aly Dorman competed in a USA National Field Hockey Tournament in Tampa, Florida with their U14 team, the Green Mountain Girls. The team went undefeated in 5 games, scoring 55 goals and only allowing 3. They competed against teams from North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The Vermont team finished 1st!
Head lice in schools almost completely disappeared when there was social distancing. As we return to a more normal school year, we are seeing head lice in most schools.
Lice outbreaks are common in school-aged children. Even the cleanest child can become infested. It is not a sign of poor health habits or being dirty.
Head lice are tiny, crawling insects that live in human hair. They do not fly or jump. The females lay eggs called nits on the hair shaft close to the scalp, often at the nape of the neck and behind the ears. The nits are small, oval-shaped specks that can vary from whitish to brownish and are firmly cemented in place, and cannot be brushed or flicked away.
Persistent itching of the head and back of the neck can indicate head lice. Most important is examining hair and scalp, especially the nape of the neck and behind the ears, for nits.
If you discover lice or nits, ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider about treatment options.
Please periodically check your child’s head for lice and nits.
