Dear BRMS Families,
It has been a busy week at BRMS since the return from December break. Today we completed nearly 300 PCR tests for our staff and students while at the same time completing several rounds of Test to Stay for our students as the positivity rate for COVID continues to increase in our area. Our school continues to demonstrate that wearing of face coverings is a critical mitigation measure along with student vaccinations. Contact tracing and test to stay has clearly indicated that there is no community spread while our students are in our building. Please continue to have conversations with your child about the importance of mask wearing while they are at school. Our goal is to keep our doors open and keep students in school and to have them participate in all the activities we are currently able to offer at BRMS. Due to the higher number of positive tests we will no longer be sending out letters to notify the community of the cases in our school. We will only be sending information to families whose child has been identified as a close contact. Our students have done an amazing job taking this seriously and at the same time keeping our spirits up with all of their middle school energy! They are a wonderful group of kids and they always keep us smiling! I want to thank all of our community members for the positive words of encouragement as we work through these challenging weeks. Have a wonderful weekend.

Save the Dates - Discover Engineering!
The Vermont 4-H Program and the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) have teamed up to host a variety of programs the entire month of February 2022 to promote the field of engineering. Our goal is to expose youth to engineering, build skills and help youth understand different pathways they can take to pursue a future as an engineer.
Check out all of the different FREE learning opportunities happening during the month – all leading up to National Engineering Week, February 20-26, 2022. (See attached flyer)
Activities include:
Create Your Own Invention Contest (grades 3-12), entries due February 19
Rube Goldberg Challenge (grades 3-12), entries due February 19
4-H World Changers: Learn to Code (grades 5-12), starts February 3
VTeen 4-H Science Pathways Cafes (grades 7-12), in-person February 5, virtual February 22 (engineering focus)
4-H@Home Engineering Activities, new activity shared each Monday in February
And, don't miss our hallmark event DISCOVER ENGINEERING on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the UVM Davis Center and other campus locations. This event is for youth in grades 5-12 and will have two distinct parts:
In the morning youth participants will engage in an Engineering Scavenger Hunt. We have invited engineering businesses and CEMS student groups to host exhibit tables to share their work and engineering expertise. Each exhibitor will submit a question to include in the scavenger hunt; the answer to these questions can be discovered by visiting the exhibit tables. Collectively, this allows youth to learn about different kinds of engineering and career pathways. There will also be a robotics demonstration by some of the FIRST Robotics teams.
In the afternoon participants will continue to connect with engineering professionals and UVM engineering students through hands-on skill-building workshops.
We hope you will encourage your students to participate in some of the programs and activities!
Please reach out with any questions. More details and registrations will be available right after the New Year.
