Ministry of Culture of Ukraine

Today in Ukraine there are more than 600 state and municipal museum institutions, including 50 national ones.

13 national museums are subordinated to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. They are:

1. The National Museum of the History of Ukraine

2. The National Art Museum of Ukraine

3. The National Museum of the Ukrainian Literature

4. The National Museum of Taras Shevchenko

5. Memorial complex “The National Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War of 1940-1945”

6. The Opishne National Museum-Reserve of the Ukrainian pottery

7. Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv

8. The National Museum "The Memorial in Commemoration of Famines' Victims in Ukraine"

9. The Memorial Museum Dedicated to Victims of Occupational Regimes: «Tyiurma na Lontskoho» (Prison at Lontskoho Street)

10. The National Memorial Complex “Vysota Marshala Koneva” (The Marshal Konev Height)

11. The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine

12. The National Scientific and Research Restoration Centre of Ukraine

The Ukrainian museums and reserves contain archeological artifacts dating back to the Paleolithic period and the times of Kievan Rus. The most unique exhibits are female figures of mammoth bones made by ancient sculptors 15 thousand years ago. Among the finest museum exhibits are artifacts of Trypillian culture.

The Golden Pectoral of Scythian king, kept in the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, has been exhibited in almost all countries of the world and become a brand image of not only the museum, but Ukraine in general. The national strategy for museums development elaborated by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has four main objectives:

- improvement of legal framework;

- reconciliation of financial issues;

- upgrading of the existing material and technical base of museums;

- digitalization of museums activities.
