Archaeology Museum, KazNU

Ancient and medieval archeology museum of Kazakhstan was opened in 1983. The museum exposition is divided into three sections, which exhibits archaeological materials of the Bronze Age, Early Iron Age and the Middle Ages, discovered during the scientific researches of professors of the department. The most valuable and rare material is presented in the section of medieval history. It is assembled on Aktobe settlement, which is dated from the V-VII centuries and is unique multi-layered medieval monument. Excellent examples of ceramics - are vessels, hums (for water storage, grain), multi-colored glazed pottery, clay pipes medieval aqueduct found by archaeologists on the territory of the settlement, according to the main stages of development of the city from ancient times to the Middle Ages. The most valuable exposure is attached by the scripts that are considered to be an undoubtedly important visual material for teaching the students.

The Museum of ancient and medieval archaeology was established in 1983, with the participation of U.H. Shalekenov, A.T. Toleubayev, A.M. Orazbayev, M. Eleuov, N.O. Aldabergenov. The museum consists of three divisions, which exhibit archeological materials of Bronze Age, early Iron Age and medieval centuries found in the process of archaeological researches carried out by the lecturers of the faculty of archaeology and ethnology of Historical Department. Bronze Age materials found during excavations of Central and Eastern Kazakhstan by A.M. Orazbayev and A.T. Toleubayev are of great interest. These are bronze arrow tips, bronze ear rings, Andronov culture’s pots. Also a diorama of Bronze Age life and activity has been created.

The division of Early Iron Age exhibits interesting archaeological materials found by the expeditions of professors A.T. Toleubayev, A.M. Orazbayev and other academicians from “Besshatyr” barrow which are unique relics of history and culture of Kazakhstan. The most valuable and rare historical material is presented in the division of medieval history and is totally dedicated to Aktobe site of ancient settlement dated V-VII A.D. – a multilayer medieval monument. Perfect patterns of ceramic vessels-humm (to store water, grain), watering ceramics, ceramic pipes of medieval water pipelines found by archaeologists in Kazakhstan. All these materials indicate the main stages of historical development of Kazakhstan from ancient times to late Middle Ages.

Students and teachers of the Faculty of History, Archeology and Ethnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the forum "Altai - the Golden Cradle of the Turkic World" in Ust-Kamenogorsk.

The large-scale conference brought together archaeologists and turkologists from more than 20 countries. Within the framework of the forum, the participants made interesting reports on ancient monuments and modern archeological research. "Urjar Zhyry" depicting the image of a Saka woman (IV-III centuries BC), the golden man Chilikty found by Professor Abdesh Tuleubayev, the Golden Man found by Professor Zeynolla Samashev on the Elek Sazy plateau in Tarbagatai district, as well as ancient jewelry and masterpieces of metallurgy: coins, arrowheads, etc. b. A unique exposition of the presented finds was opened.

Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Abdesh Toleubayev made a report on the results of the project "Monuments of ancient and medieval Chilikty valley and the foothills of Tarbagatai."

At the end of the forum, the KazNU delegation visited the unique historical and archaeological monument "Ak Baur". It is believed that in ancient times "Ak Baur" was a place of observation to determine the location of the sun and stars, the equinoxes of day and night.
