In the summer of 2019, the Don Expedition of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences discovered a rare find in the Voronezh region - a Scythian golden kalaf (headdress). Previously, such headdresses were found only in the richest "royal" mounds of Scythia (Chertomlyk, Tolstaya Mogila).

Valery Ivanovich Gulyaev, head of the expedition, Doctor of Historical Sciences, shared some of the results of natural science research. So, anthropologists have established: in order to put one of the women in the "rider pose", she cut the tendons on her legs. Analysis of the metal from which the calaf is made showed that it consists of 65–70% gold, and the remaining 35–30% are copper and silver, and besides, iron (there is very little of it).

Gulyaev noted that the share of "pure" gold for the Scythian time is very high - in other items it can be only 30%. Paleozoologists say the women were buried in the fall: the bones of a six to eight month old lamb were found in the grave, which are usually born in March or April.
