For several years, the archaeological expedition of al-Farabi Kazakh national University has been conducting research in the Eleke Sazy valley. Another sensation of the valley of the kings of East Kazakhstan was presented today by the head of the expedition Abdesh Toleubayev, the correspondent reports YK-news.kz.

In the 2020 archaeological season, scientists conducted research on one Tsarskoye and several smaller burial mounds. Despite the fact that representatives of science got objects that were previously looted, one of them was found a treasure, including 850 fragments of ceremonial horse harness.

The treasure includes gold and gilded harness details: deer, Griffin and leopard pads, pendants, finials, distributors, thin chains and gold foil applications. Some of the fragments have carnelian inserts, some are made in the complex jewelry technique of zerni, in which tiny gold balls are soldered to the base.

According to Abdesh Toleubayev, in addition to the treasure, many fragments of thin-walled ceramics were found this season, as well as an ancient foundry and forge where iron age steppe people made jewelry and weapons.

The exhibition "Gold of East Kazakhstan" was successfully held in Moscow last year. This year, it was supposed to show precious finds in the UK, but the event was postponed due to the pandemic. However, scientists do not lose hope to hold it in the spring of 2021. It is planned to display finds from the Eleke Sazy valley at the University of Cambridge. The exhibition will also include items found during the current archaeological season.
