Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore

Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore was founded on July 22, 1939 to equip a resolution of the organizing committee of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR on the basis of a school museum.

On November 5, 1940, the museum is officially open to visitors.

The museum's collection contains about 50 thousand historical valuable exhibits on the history of the region, nature, art and culture.

1) Hall "Mystery of the Century"

The tribes of the Sarmatians lived at the turn of the ІІІ-І centuries BC. They were engaged in nomadic cattle breeding and partly sedentary agriculture.

In 1999, archaeological excavations were carried out in the Zhylyoi region of the Araltobe mound from the northeast side. In the course of archaeological work, researchers determined the time of the Sarmatian dwelling of the second millennium. Glass beads, bow arrows, tips, dagger fragments, a fragment of a clay vessel, an iron saber, a staff were found in this burial ground. After recovering the golden clothes of the Sarmatian leader, the exposition of the Sarmatian leader was opened in the museum in 2000.

2) Hall "Consonance of the Ages."

In the hall “Consonance of the Centuries”, the history of the Kazakh people, the united tribes of that era, the Aryans, Saks, Huns, as well as the early feudal states (Turks, Turgeshes, Karluks, Oguzes, Kipshaks, Karakhanids) are presented. Showing samples of Arabic and Orkhon-Yenisei writing.

This hall presents the greatness of the Kazakh steppes: handicrafts, artificial types of ornament, stone sharpened, patterns, weapons, tribal signs, arhartas, koshkartasy, kulpytas, which were erected above the heads of their ancestors.

3) Hall of Archeology.

In the hall of archeology, the settlement of Saraichik (XII-XІҮ) and Aktobe-Laeti (XII-XIIvekov) are described. Historical exhibits, coins, jugs, beads, and ceramic dishes were found there.

4) Hall of Ethnography.

The life creativity of a person was formed in the ethnography hall of the Kazakh people, and the secrets of material and spiritual culture are also narrated. Here visitors are abundantly informed by handicrafts, jewelry by craftsmen, national costumes knitted on a loom.
