UFA, 20 Aug - RIA Novosti, Ramil Salikhova. A preliminary anthropological analysis of a skeleton found by archaeologists in a burial mound of the Sarmatian era in the Orenburg region, at first identified as female, showed that it belongs to a man, the head of the expedition, head of the department of Scythian-Sarmatian archeology of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leonid Yablonsky, told RIA Novosti.

In early August, an expedition from the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences led by Yablonsky discovered during the excavation of the "royal" mound No. 1 near the village of Filippovka, Orenburg region, an intact grave of a noble man buried about 2.5 thousand years ago.

It was reported that in the underground passage that led to the central burial pit, a giant bronze cauldron was discovered, the handles of which were made in the form of fairy griffin birds looking at each other. But the most significant was the find of a human burial, which was located under the eastern hollow of the mound at a depth of 4 meters.

"When the burial was cleared, the grave goods accompanying the burial were typically female. These were, in particular, two gold earrings, bracelets on the wrists, a gold ring on each finger, cosmetic kits, including toilet vessels for storing incense and cosmetics, and so on. male "inventory found on the spot - a quiver with arrows and a bridle. We assumed that this is the burial of a woman, but the final conclusion could only be drawn after a thorough examination of the bones of the skeleton and skull," Yablonsky said.

After conducting an anthropological analysis of the bones of the skeleton, scientists found signs that correspond to male morphology. A more accurate determination of the sex of the find of the buried person can only be obtained from the results of genetic analysis, for which the expedition has no funds so far.

Yablonsky said that the age of the buried person is about 40 years. According to him, the artifacts found in the mound are currently already in the Orenburg Governor's Museum of History and Local Lore.
