Archaeology Institute of Afghanistan (AIA)

Director of Archaeology, Mr. Noor Agha Noori, visited the Archaeological site of Qol-e-Surkh Toot located in Shewaki area of Kabul. For the first time AIA started excavation in this site where numerous structures of Buddhist religious complex dated to 2nd-6th C AD have been unearthed. Several coins, clay statues, Pottery, ornamental metal objects, human bone and oil lamps are also recorded during the excavation. Director of AIA examin overall progress of the excavations and gave necessory instruction to the field staff and appreciate the efforts of the AIA field archaeologists for the excavation of this important site. He assure all possible help from AIA to field staff. The site has been heavilly looted by illigal diggers in the past.
