With Advanced Download, you can see how all the elements in your advertising campaigns are set up, allowing you to efficiently make changes in bulk. Using this feature is simple: export and download your campaign data as an .xlsx file, make your desired changes, and upload the edited spreadsheet back into Backpack. Any changes you make in the .xlsx file will be automatically updated in the platform.
Expand the rows below for a breakdown of each step of the process:
Go to Manage in the top menu.
Check the box(es) next to the account(s) you want to export. Note: Selecting more than six accounts will result in fewer export options.
Under Available Types, toggle on or off the elements you want to include in the .xlsx file (e.g., accounts, budgets, creatives, etc.), including performance metrics (the last toggle in the list).
Scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Download dropdown and click Export to download an .xlsx file.
Open the .xlsx file containing your campaign data.
Edit the desired advertising account elements, including accounts, groups (think of these as optional budget categories—another level of organization that lives above budgets), budgets, campaigns, ad groups, and extensions (all Backpack-supported types). A separate tab exists for each element in the spreadsheet. Note: Content in the columns with purple headers is editable. Do not change the content in the columns with green headers.
(Optional) Create new elements (e.g., keywords, creatives, etc.) by adding new rows to the spreadsheet. Here's how:
Start a new row in the spreadsheet.
In the Primary Key field, input new. Note: When you upload the spreadsheet into the platform, a primary key number will automatically be assigned.
Copy and paste the fields in the green header columns into the new row. These must be the same.
Input your desired values in the purple header columns.
4. Save your updated .xlsx file. Note: Make sure it is still in the same file format as when you downloaded it (.xlsx).
Return to Manage in the top menu.
Click Upload (located in the upper right corner of the window).
Click Browse to locate the .xlsx file on your device, and select Open.
Review the detected updates. Select individual changes or click Select All to apply all updates.
Click Apply Updates to sync the new changes.
Previously, if you changed the approved monthly budget in the accounts tab on the .xlsx file, Backpack would scale that budget across existing active budgets based on their weight. This auto-scaling is now turned off in Advanced Download.
